Emara passed away tragically at the age of 72 in a car crash and was a strong advocate, teacher and supporter of Canada's healthcare system. His name now adorns signs at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare where the building at the back of its Prince Road campus proudly reads The Dr. Y Emara Centre for Healthy Aging and Mobility. The Dr. Y. Emara Centre is home to HDGH's Complex Medical Care and Problem Gambling programs, a 30-bed geriatric rehab unit as well as Windsor's only hospital-based Palliative Care program.
"My father would always remind us how lucky we are to live in this great county where all are entitled to receive healthcare," said his son Dr. Barry Emara a Windsor Ophthalmologist while speaking proudly of his late father. "Always remember how lucky we are to call Canada home and also remember this when our county turns 150 years old in just a few days," he concluded.
Visitors and patients of the Dr. Y Emara Centre can now find some of his greatest professional treasures and photos in the new display case mounted at its entrance. Dr. Yehia Emara will always be remembered for his dynamic personality, high-capacity to work hard and his proud Canadian attitude who embraced his new home recognizing incredible opportunity, tremendous freedom and especially the universal health care system that is the envy of the world.
