The CEBC Creating Smart Sustainable Cities workshop took place on 9 June at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai.  It was a hugely successful day with both informative speakers and an engaging audience generating many useful discussions.

CEBC member GDF Suez wows with biggest ever green bond

GDF Suez has printed the biggest corporate Green bond to date, a €2.5bn dual-tranche deal. The transaction on Monday was also GDF's inaugural deal in the format and attracted a total book of €7.5bn from 520 investors following a pan-European roadshow conducted last week.

 

Saudi Arabia in Policy Shift Seeking Solar Through Aramco | Bloomberg New Energy Finance

Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil company is planning to add more solar power, a move to limit domestic fossil-fuel consumption in the world's biggest exporter of crude. "We are looking at solar investments with great interest," Chief Executive Officer Khalid Al-Falih of Saudi Arabian Oil Co. told a conference in Bahrain. 

 

Measuring a Smart Cities 'Smartness' 
Researchers at the UK's University of Sheffield teamed with GSMA, an organization that represents mobile network operators, to develop a common index for measuring a smart city's smartness. Leveraging a set of 31 indicators developed by GSMA that take economics, infrastructure and social benefits of mobile-connected smart cities into account, the Sheffield researchers are now figuring out how much weight to give to each.

 

UK firm launches first Sharia-compliant green energy project 
UK-based Simply Sharia has launched a green energy scheme that will sell Renewable Obligation certificates and electricity to the grid in partnership with Gardner Asset Management LLP (GAMllp) and Shariyah Review Bureau (SRB).  [Read more]
