Falling for Fox Trotters

Dear Fox Trotter Enthusiast:

It seems as if we were just driving away from Ava's MFTHBA World Headquarters at the end of the 2013 Fall Show and Celebration in September.

How can we be so close to November?

A couple of quick updates for you as you begin to think about Thanksgiving.

A *sincere thanks* to those who volunteer for leadership positions within our organization.  Congratulations to our newly elected officers and board members:

Secretary/Treasurer
Donna Brown

Director Region 2
Craig Dansie

Director Region  5
Ted Nichols

Note: votes were equal in this race and the officeholder was decided per by-laws with a coin toss.

Director Region 8

Jennifer West
While we congratulate Jennifer, a big thank you to outgoing Director Charlene Ostrum who has served her region and the Association with great dedication.

And speaking of thanks, next month, you will be reading more about the Membership Committee's Second Stallion Tour.  It was a perfect day for a perfect breed.

Next month's Newsletter will also feature a story about a group of Missouri Fox Trotter admirers who stepped up and rescued more than 50 of our breed in a matter of days.

We have so much to be thankful for!

Please note the deadlines at your right for 2014 Futurity and foal registrations that will be credited toward the Breeding Sire of the Year Award. Don't miss out on the Futurity's early registration reduced fees.

See you at the barn, the rail or the trail,

CC's Touch of Smoke Captures Honors with Owner Robin Mortensen, Qualifies for Sorting Horse World Show
Though all MFT owners celebrate the breed's versatility, Robin Mortensen and CC's Touch of Smoke have been changing the way some other folks look at cattle sorting.  In fact, the two have been owning turf perennially occupied by quarter horses.
Robin Mortensen and CC's Touch of Smoke "sort" it all out at the Minnesota Sorting Cow Horse Association(Photo provided Robin Mortensen.)
Working together since the Spring 2012, Robin's Fall League Team quickly earned a buckle.

March 2013 brought her first show with MNSCHA (Minnesota Sorting Cow Horse Association) which is part of NSCHA. She placed second in one of the classes.  Regional competition brought a another second, and along with her four NSCHA shows, Robin qualified to compete in the NSCHA (National Sorting Cow Horse Association) World Show at the National Equestrian Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, from Thursday, November 21 to Sunday, November 24.

What does this emerging sorting champion say about the field? That she would love to see more MFT's out in the sorting arenas.

Congratulations on an outstanding accomplishment, Robin, and here's to a great performance in Saint Louis.

News and Notes:

Show and Celebration Catalog Getting Face Lift,

Offers Incentives

This year's Catalog will be 100 percent in color!   Most of the printers we contacted do not charge different prices for black and white versus color pages.  So, it makes sense financially and aesthetically to move toward an all color book. We will be offering a business card option at a lower price.
The MFTHBA is offering a discount on ads purchased by Friday, November 1.  If you submit ad materials and pay by November 1, you will receive 10 percent off a quarter page or larger and 20 percent off the purchase of two or more full pages.  In addition, this year's bid request will include printing and design work by an outside company.  Anyone that needs help designing their ads will be able to receive that assistance at no additional charge.
