T he Billfish Foundation (TBF) is a science-based, non-profit, charitable organization. (501) (c )(3) , based in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with constituents around the world. TBF's priorities include research (including sportfishing economics), education and advocacy for responsible use and conservation of billfish (marlin, sailfish, spearfish). The organization was established in 1986 by Winthrop P. Rockefeller and 50 anglers, who recognized that despite better fishing equipment and skill, they were encountering fewer billfish; they instinctively knew overfishing was occurring. World Oceans Day

Sunday, June 11th

10 AM - 6 PM

1116 Love Street, Jupiter Inlet Village, Jupiter, FL 33458

Join us for great day celebrating the ocean, having fun, enjoy live music and great food and a chance to win incredible raffle prizes. Everyone is welcome. No charge.

Jupiter, like so many coastal communities and towns, owns its cultural heritage and sense of place to the ocean. It is in the Jupiter Inlet, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Intracoastal Waterway and Loxahatchee River, representing a self-sustaining, bio-diverse habitat supporting marine life from tiny phytoplankton producing oxygen we breathe, to amazing dolphins who serve as flagship species for the entire seven seas. The ocean has been providing countless direct and indirect socio-cultural, historic, and natural resources benefits that have shaped and influenced the Town of Jupiter, its landmarks, character, and long-term needs as a healthy coastal community.

Jupiter has also evolved into a community that is home to world-class ocean explorers, researchers and their organizations, such the Taras Oceanographic Foundation, as well as nature enthusiasts, operating the Jupiter Outdoor Center and the Jupiter Water Taxi, providing wonderful on the water experiences for people of all ages.

And so for the very first time, and thanks to a joint effort by these three organizations, Jupiter will be officially celebrating World Oceans Day in 2017. Other participants include The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, The River Center, Ocean Magic, Honors College of FAU and local fishermen.

Austin J. Burkett has joined the E. J. Schrader Mattress Co., Inc.

The E. J. Schrader Mattress Co., Inc. has more to celebrate than their 61st anniversary. Blair Schrader, the founder's son and President/CEO announced that his grandson Austin Burkett has joined the family-owned and operated business.

Austin is a recent graduate of FAU and brings his knowledge of finance, internet skills, and interior design to the established company. He has worked part time with E. J. Schrader predominately in the Marine Division for many years. A very charismatic, and good looking young man, he has been an asset to the company's growth at the various Boat Show booths. He brings fresh ideas and has helped with marketing and web-site decisions. Not limited to just marine mattress, he also helps with the residential sales. He has taken his precise measurement skills learned in the marine division to help interior designers and their clients with antique and odd shaped beds. He just completed and was certified with a 10-hour OSHA Maritime 1915 training course presented at LMC by Universal Training Center. This will allow him entry to many more Marinas around the country.

NEW Salt Water Commenting Webpage

Share your marine fisheries comments on new saltwater commenting webpage

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Division of Marine Fisheries Management wants to hear from you. In an effort to keep stakeholders informed and to gather public input on upcoming issues, a new webpage has been created: MyFWC.com/SaltwaterComments.

Keep track of items expected to be discussed by the Commission in future meetings and provide your thoughts on fishery management in state waters (shore to 3 nautical miles in the Atlantic and shore to 9 nautical miles in the Gulf) by visiting the new webpage.

Currently, staff are collecting comments on the statewide management of cobia, sheepshead and tripletail, as well as goliath grouper, flounder, spotted seatrout, trap fisheries and shrimp. Staff are also collecting comments on gray triggerfish and gag grouper in Gulf state waters. To comment, fill out the form at the bottom of the commenting page. Comments can also be emailed to [email protected] or submitted over the phone at 850-487-0554.

Have a question instead of a comment? Email [email protected], call 850-487-0554 or send your question in via Ask FWC.
