From the President...

There is much that is going on in the Community and so I wanted to share them with you in no particular order so that you can make plans to attend / see them..
As you know, the South Cobb Arts Alliance (SCAA) has been putting on some great concerts this Summer and hopefully, you have been to one of them.  If you have not, it is not too late.  There will be several more Candlelight Concerts and Concerts coming up and so please put those on your calendar.  Also, there will be more Food Truck Thursdays - with one of them this coming Thursday - a great chance to have a nice meal and fellowship with your neighbors.
MIC has been working with a couple of neighborhoods recently in an effort to help them to start a Neighborhood Watch Program in their particular section of Mableton.    If you are interested in starting one in your area, please do not
hesitate to reach out to us as we are willing partners.
The Town Square for Mableton is taking shape, slowly but surely.  Set to open in March 2016, this community space will be a great asset to Mableton and provide future opportunities for friends and neighbors to gather together.   You may want to drive by there and take a look and see how it is coming along.
We are excited about all the good things happening in Mableton and urge you to be a part of at least one organization working to improve our community. Want to get more involved? MIC is always ready to put your talent and passion to work, or to put you in touch with an organization that is aligned with your interests.
Give me a call or send me an email - I'm always ready to talk about Mableton!

Zoning News
Decided in August...

The Board of Commissioners approved an application from the owner of 5751 Powell zoning sign small Drive (Z-54) for rezoning from residential and planned shopping center zoning categories to CRC (commercial/retail center) for an existing automotive paint and body shop. MIC appreciates the owner's improvements to the property so far, and looks forward to the additional improvements that are conditions of the zoning approval.

Coming up in September...

The application for a subdivision on Old Alabama Road (Z-86) was heard by the Planning Commission in August and then held for another hearing on September 8th because the revised plan was not submitted in time for staff analysis and neighborhood review. The current plan for 34 lots and a community gathering space is a tremendous improvement over the original plan, and MIC is supportive of the changes made.

On September 15th, the Board of Commissioners will consider an Other Business Agenda item filed by Nature's Supply Centre, located at 4419 Floyd Road. The hearing was postponed from the original August date. The business is requesting that it not be required to install the entire 50 foot landscape buffer adjacent to the neighborhood and the Silver Comet Trail. MIC is continuing to work with the applicant on the Landscape Plan for this property required under their rezoning last fall and expects that any issues can be resolved.

Art Frame, LLC, located at 516 Veterans Memorial Highway (near the intersection with Pebblebrook Road) (Z-59) would like to change the zoning of adjacent property from Neighborhood Retail Commercial to Light Industrial in order to expand.  The applicant's attorney met with the Cobblestone Creek subdivision and MIC Zoning Committee. MIC's Board voted to remain neutral if changes are made to the plan and stipulations that would reduce the impact of the expansion and the existing operations on Cobblestone Creek.

The Church of the Pentecost USA is requesting rezoning for property located at 5606 Mableton Parkway, the old First Union Bank building. MIC has contacted the applicant to learn more about their plans.

Volunteer Ridge subdivision, currently under construction at 711 Veterans Memorial Highway, has filed a request to increase the impervious surfaces on these residential lots from 40% to 50%.

Commissioner Lisa Cupid holds community zoning meetings each month and everyone is invited to attend. The next meeting will be Wednesday, September 23rd at 6:00PM at the South Cobb Community Center, 620 Lions Club Drive in Mableton.
