When looking for models of established, successful homegrown soccer players, people on Mercer Island don't have to look very far.

They can turn on their TV and watch former Island standout Jordan Morris dart through defenders in Seattle Sounders blue and green. Or they can travel to Islander Stadium and watch the Mercer Island girls soccer team in the fall and the boys soccer team in the spring. The Islander girls won their first nine games of the year last season, finished second in the KingCo 2A/3A standings and were just one game short of the 3A state tournament. The Islander boys have finished undefeated in the KingCo 2A/3A league two years in a row and have made three state championship appearances in five years.

Such feats are becoming quite the norm on the Island, and Mercer Island boys varsity coach Colin Rigby believes it can be traced to a partnership that began several years ago between Mercer Island's recreational and premier soccer programs.

For the second year in a row, the Mercer Island FC soccer club hosted a Sounders Women match at Mercer Island High School stadium. On June 11, the Sounders Women took on the Portland Spartans in a Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) regular season match. Despite intermittent rains throughout the match, a nice crowd turned out to see the collegiate players display their soccer skills.

Questions and Answers about MIFC New Club Sponsors Pagliacci Pizza and Axia Home Loanssponsors

Last month we announced that we'd reached sponsorship deals with two local companies. Pagliacci Pizza and Axia Home Loans have signed multiple year deals to be club sponsors in exchange for logo placement on player jerseys, inclusion in all club marketing and communications, possible field signage and other promotional benefits.

Since that time, the board has received a number
of questions ab out
the
sponsorship's, why the club pursued these deals, how the money will be used,  etc. While we've attempted to answer the questions we received individually, we realized that
sharing the information more broadly might be helpful.

And if you have additional questions, please let us know.

Mercer Island FC Sponsors Annual Summer Celebration SummerCelebration

Mercer Island FC is proud to sponsor the Mercer Island Summer Celebration again this year. Participation in the Summer Celebration helps not only support this island tradition, now in its 26th year. It also helps us educate parents and players about soccer offerings on Mercer Island, MIFC programs and teams, and the structure of soccer in Washington State.

This year's Summer Celebration is
July 9th-10th  in downtown Mercer Island  at Mercerdale Park. Look for us in the parade on Saturday and come by our booth in the park both days for free giveaways and to get your soccer questions answered. We hope to see you there!
