Martin Luther King Jr. Day Concert 

In 1982, the first Martin Luther King Jr.Day Gospel Concert took place in Nevada City.
35 years later, the tradition continues. 

Join us at the historic  Nevada Theatre on Monday, January 16th from 12-2pm for this King Day concert with the Bethel AME Choir of Marysville, who've been with us since the very beginning, plus the 5th year of Nevada City Trinity Community Chorale

This event is free. Doors open at 11:15am 
Wild & Scenic Film Festival 

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival sits apart from the hundreds of festivals around the world by leaving you feeling INSPIRED and MOTIVATED to go out and make a difference in your community and the world.

As a festival by activists and for activists, Wild & Scenic is organized and produced by SYRCL. Since 1983, they've been building a community to protect and restore the rivers of our home watershed, from source to sea.

New for 2017, dive into the world of  Virtual Reality with four environmental-themed experiences, including one world premiere experience of our very own Yuba River. Escape the hustle and bustle of the fest by embarking on a virtual trip featuring wildlife, exotic destinations,
undersea experiences, or action sport adventures.

Prop 64 Forum 

Monday, January 30th from 6-8pm - a public forum on Prop 64  will be held at the Nevada Theatre, on the future of cannabis in Nevada County. The event includes a speaker panel discussion with press Q&A. 

The panel, which will break down the complexities of the AUMA proposal, will consist of lawyers, community activists and medical marijuana consultants, well-versed on the reformation of marijuana legalization through Prop 64, which seeks to:
  • Allow adults 21 years and older to possess up to one ounce of marijuana and cultivate up to six plants for personal use.
  • Regulate and tax the production, manufacture, and sale of marijuana for adult use.
  • Rewrite criminal penalties so as to reduce the most common marijuana felonies to misdemeanors and allow prior offenders to petition for reduced charges.
 
This forum will also be broadcast live on KVMR from 6-8pm
Iron Horse 

In 2003, Iron Horse recorded a bluegrass tribute album to the heavy metal band, Metallica and has recorded several other projects playing bluegrass tributes to Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourn, Modest Mouse, The Shins, Guns & Roses, The Goo Goo Dolls, Hank Williams, Black Label Society and more.

KVMR is preparing to launch what's currently called KVMR2, a new fulltime web stream aimed at broadening the audience by offering content for millenials and other younger-minded listeners.

We are seeking and recruiting a fresh crop of potential volunteer broadcasters to attend a pair of classes about the new online service on two Saturdays, January 28th and February 4th from 10am - 2pm.

Nugget Fringe Festival 

The Nugget Fringe Festival, an eclectic mix of cutting edge performances from around the world, comes to various locations in Grass Valley Jan 19th-29th. 

The unique festival features 30 different shows with 110 performances at 7 venues over the 10 days. 

Dementia Forum 

KVMR, in collaboration with Atria of Grass Valley and Sierra Nevada Hospital Foundation, with press partners The Union and Yubanet, present the Community Dementia Forum on Tuesday, January 31st at the historic  Nevada Theatre.

A panel of experts, including David Troxel, Alzheimer's expert and author of the book, A Dignified Life: The Best Friend Approach to Alzheimer's Care: A Guide for Care Partners, will take questions and discuss the challenges of caring for a family member living with dementia.

The first 100 to arrive at the forum will receive a free copy of the book.
