MNU Tuesdays

Tuesday, November 13 - MNU Tuesdays, a monthly business and professional luncheon series, provides opportunities for Alumni and Friends of the University to network and learn over lunch.  The November luncheon features Dr. Harold Ivan Smith.  Dr. Smith is an author, speaker and grief specialist.  He will be speaking on the topic "Making a Difference."

 

The luncheon begins at 11:45 a.m. and will punctually end at 12:45 p.m.  The cost is $13.00 and may be paid at the door by cash, check, or credit card or by following the link below.

Reunions2012 Class Reunions
It's time to plan for your class reunion!  In 2012, we celebrate the first-ever 40-year reunion of the Class of 1972.  The Class of '72 has invited the first four years ('72-'75) to join them for this Pioneer Class Reunion.  Also this year, we celebrate reunions for '77, '82, '87, '92, '97, '02 and '07.  If you are a member of one of these classes and would like to help with your class reunion, please let us know at 913.971.3275 or alumni@mnu.edu.  Also, if you are on Facebook, be sure to join your class Facebook group listed below.  
Inauguration of Dr. David J. Spittal
October 26, 10 a.m. at College Church - Witness the continuation of God's work at MNU with the inauguration of Dr. David J. Spittal as our fifth president. Homecoming 2012 coincides with this special event offering alumni and friends a chance to celebrate this historic and moving occasion. Join us in welcoming President Spittal as he shares his inaugural address, "We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight."
Late Night
October 26, 2012
After the Homecoming Celebration Dinner finishes, the party moves over to Pioneer Stadium parking lot under the Big Tent.  Beginning at 9:30 PM, Late Night features open mic performances by MNU alumni and friends, who will be competing for a $100 cash prize.  Don't miss out on this entertaining event emceed by Michael Joiner.  In addition to the comedy show, the event includes all-you-can-eat FREE wood grilled pizza, drinks and more.  If you are interested in competing for the $100 cash prize in the open mic improv comedy contest, please fill out the form here or contact the Alumni Office at alumni@mnu.edu or 913-971-3275.  
Homecoming Pioneer BBQ Cook-Off
October 27, 2012 - Registration is open for the Homecoming Pioneer People's Choice BBQ Cook-Off!  This year's competition categories are pulled pork, barbecue sauce and Pioneer spirit!  If you can put together a team and would like to participate, check out the official registration form here.
2012/2013 Choir Season

Enjoy an afternoon with the Symphonic Choir and Orchestra as they feature some of choral music's most beloved choruses.  A special feature of this concert will include student soloists who are the budding stars of the future!  The concert is November 4 at 3:30 p.m. at the Bell Cultural Events Center.  For more information about this event, go to www.mnu.edu/bellcenterClick here to view more information about other upcoming choir presentations. 

 

Concession Volunteers Needed
Are you looking for a way to volunteer at MNU?  Your Alumni Office is in charge of all concessions on campus and we need your help!  We would love to staff our concession stands throughout the year with alumni volunteers.  There are several football, volleyball and soccer games left, and basketball is right around the corner!  Take a look at the available dates and volunteer here today!

Includes 1 room for 6 people, overnight lodging and 6 water park passes both Friday and Saturday. Includes all fees and taxes. Pizza buffet for your entire family on Friday evening.

$50 non-refundable deposit due to reserve your spot by January 18, 2013.

Alumni News Briefs
Congratulations to the following Alumni for their achievements:

Eldon Meyers ('86) was elected Board Chairman of Petroleum Marketers of Iowa at its Annual Meeting in Kansas City last February. The organization is nationally recognized as an authority on renewable fuels and provides national compliance services in accordance with the Federal Renewable Fuels Standard.  

Tammie Jo Shults (Bonnell, '83) has been published in the new publication of Military Fly Moms-a collection of 71 stories by women who were or are military aviators and also mothers. The book includeds color photos, depicting women aviators in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard alongside their helicopters, transport aircraft, or fighter planes, as well as highlighting their families. Tammie Jo is a former Navy EA-7L Corsair and F/A Hornet pilot and her husband, Dean, is also a Navy pilot. They currently reside in Boerne, Texas and she typically gets to fly eight to ten days a month.  

Brent Blacklock ('98), CPA and former MNU basketball player, has been promoted to Director at TPP Certified Public Accountants, LLC. Blacklock, who has worked at TPP since 1999, will be managing clients and developing additional business clients for the core services area at TPP.
