Marriage Moments & Parenting Pointers
NOVEMBER - 2017

Family heart

I offer you these tidbits of wisdom as prayer prompts to remind you (and your constituents) of the sacredness of marriage vows and the value of every child. The commitment to love a spouse forever, and the generous gift of life parents offer a child are indeed spiritual under-takings and cannot be done alone. May the God of Love be with you and your work.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS *
754. Nov. 6: Ways to Turn Your Beloved Off #4 - Let TV trump your spouse as your companion of choice. Yes, you can watch a favorite program together, but beware of TV or videos stealing time from playing together.

755. Nov. 13: "Whoever seeks Wisdom shall quickly be free from care." (Wisdom 6:15) Besides marrying you, what is a wise thing your beloved recently did or said?

756. Nov. 20: "When one finds a worthy wife [husband] their value is far beyond pearls [money]." (Proverbs 31:10) Although this scripture traditionally refers to wives, it works equally well for husbands. Pause for a moment and ponder the worth of your beloved.

757. Nov. 27:   Ways to Turn Your Beloved Off #5 - Let bargain hunting rob you of time - time to serve those who don't have the money even for a bargain. Let Matthew 25 ring in your  ears: " I was hungry, thirsty, a stranger, naked, ill, in prison..." Spend some time and money responding to this sales pitch from Christ the King as Christmas approaches.

* Marriage Moments go out to individuals on Mondays. For Sunday bulletins use the Sunday immediately before the above  date.
PARENTING POINTERS*
753. Nov. 3: On All Souls' Day (Nov. 2) we remember those who have died. Death can be scary, especially to children. Honor those you know who have died. Perhaps try a dinner prayer like, "Dear God, we thank you for the life of _____ who taught us to _____. Include pets if you wish.

754. Nov. 10: 30% of the nation's homeless adults have a history of foster care. Consider whether your family is in a position to provide a permanent home for a foster child. A loving family can break this sad cycle. November is National Adoption Month.

755. Nov. 17: Even with natural talent, it takes work to develop it. Help your child identify one talent this week, and one way they can improve it. Often this includes the "P" word - Practice. (Mt 25: 14-30)

756. Nov. 24: Thanksgiving is over. Let the shopping begin! Or must it? The Friday after Thanksgiving is often called Black Friday - the day stores start to make a profit. Buying gifts isn't inherently bad, but giving an experience is often more memorable. Why not stay home and play a game.

Parenting Pointers go out to individuals on Fridays. For Sunday bulletins, use  the closest Friday.
