This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Loving v. Virginia case that struck down racial restrictions on marriage in the U.S.
The GGRWHC honors the Loving case as one more example how women's and men's intimate lives have been both restricted and liberated in the past.

The Edye Evans Hyde's Ebony Road Players is celebrating this  weekend, June 9-11. Hyde says, "To highlight the history of the Richard and Mildred Loving is to understand how history affects us now."
Giving Voice to Love

The opening event features local artists of music, dance, theater, film, and spoken word telling their stories of identity, race, love and expression 50 years after the groundbreaking court case.

Cosponsored by Park Church, there will be activities inside the church and outside on the street.
Outside: food, artists, community organizations, children's activities, a stage with music, dance.
Inside: there will be film viewings from The Mosaic Film Experience, acting workshops, and a voice box to capture your stories!

By 1895, America had the fever as the bicycle evolved from a dangerous and expensive contraption to an easy and affordable way to travel.
Using one
-of-a-kind historical photos and documents, Alles will discuss the Furniture City's obsession with bicycles--including information about women's cycling clubs and how bicycles affected women's dress and offered new freedoms. In Grand Rapids bicycle culture was huge!
