MPCSD Announces Upcoming Appointment of New Assistant Superintendent
 
Incoming MPCSD Superintendent, Erik Burmeister, is excited to announce the appointment, pending Board approval on April 18, of Jammie Behrendt as the next Assistant Superintendent in charge of Educational Services. The hiring process to identify MPCSD's next Assistant Superintendent involved a comprehensive recruitment period followed by three rounds of interviews with representation from parents, teachers, administration, and classified support staff.
 
Jammie comes to MPCSD from Belmont-Redwood Shores School District where she currently serves as the Director of Educational Services. In her three years in BRSSD, Jammie has led the design and implementation of the district's Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) receiving commendation from the SMCOE for its thoroughness and effectiveness in addressing the needs of students from low-income families and English Language Learners. In just one year, BRSSD increased the achievement of their students from low-income families by an average of 10% and the achievement of their EL students by an average of 5%. Ms. Behrendt is known in her district and within the county as a collaborative thought leader, having started a middle school principal Professional Learning Community county-wide and supporting teacher leadership within Belmont Redwood Shores.
 
A bilingual Mandarin and English speaker, Ms. Behrendt graduated from Arizona State University and completed graduate work at both the University of San Francisco and San Jose State University. Jammie has experience teaching and leading in a diversity of districts throughout the Bay Area including Redwood City, South San Francisco, and San Carlos at both the elementary and middle school levels. In all of her roles, educational equity and effective instructional strategies have been at the forefront of her work.
 
Jammie lives in San Carlos with her husband and two sons, one a high school freshman and the other a graduating senior entering college in the fall. She is excited to join the MPCSD team saying, "Menlo Park City School District has a reputation for excellence and 21st-Century learning. I am honored to join such an outstanding organization." Incoming Superintendent Erik Burmeister will present Ms. Behrendt's appointment to the Board on April 18; pending Board approval, she will begin work with MPCSD on July 1, 2017.
