The Re-imagined Revere Hotel Boston Common What Meeting Planners Need to Know Now
|
|
The legendary, fully remodeled Revere Hotel Boston Common is our generous host of this month's Industry Outing on July 18th. Have you been there recently? Whether you have or not, it's time to visit now that they have finished their $28 million renovation.
While the Rooftop@Revere is one of the most coveted rooftops in Boston, the meeting and event space deserves the spotlight. Read what Keith Chouinard, Director of Sales & Marketing, has to say on why Meeting Planners are excited about the changes.
What do these renovations allow the Hotel to deliver for Groups that could not be done in the past?
We've not only the improved the look of our 42,000 square feet of space, but the new design allows for versatile set ups to take advantage of the natural light, high ceilings and outdoor settings.
The Silver Ballroom was re-purposed from an amphitheater permanent set to become our premier space combining thematic design elements and the latest technology for the ultimate blend of classic and modern elegance along with a 21 foot ceiling.
What "type" of Group chooses the Revere Hotel?
The Revere Hotel Boston Common's location and independent style is most popular for corporations and associations seeking a setting that allows for learning, sharing and networking.
The hotel's most popular size group is 150-175 attendees for meetings with meals. While we have four ballrooms, small executive size meetings of 10-25 participants are also very popular due to meeting rooms with natural light on our 6th floor Tea Gallery.

Ask the Experts -
Advice for Navigating a Social Networking Event
|
|
As Summer is now in full swing, we asked a few of our experienced members for their advice on how to get the most out of our July Industry Outing and other social networking events over the next few months. Great insight and tips from all of them!
"At any networking event, one tends to cluster around people we already know as that is comfortable. Networking can be a challenge at MPI events as many of the members have been involved for 5+ years and know each other. Therefore, my advice would be to break out of the habit and set a goal to meet at least 3 new people at the Summer social. Ice breakers to jump in after you introduce yourself include:
1. How long have you been at your current position? What do you like most about your job?
2. What are your plans for spending time away from work this summer?
3. My position is...and I would like to connect you with other suppliers or buyers to increase your network. May I have your contact information?"
- Deb Stark, Americas Marketing Manager, Charles River Development
"My best networking advice is to be a "connector." Be generous with your network. As you speak with someone new, be sensitive to who they night benefit from knowing. Tell them why as you introduce the future friends. It's fun to be a connector."
- Cecil Dorman, VP, Business Development, AVFX
"First, know your audience. It is great that MPINE shares the list of attendees ahead of time, this allows everyone to best prepare. Since the event is a summer social, be SOCIAL. As a vendor/sales professional, we should not be "selling" during these events. Just get to know people on a personal level. If warranted, the business relationship will grow, if not, you just met a new friend." - Mark Douglass, National Sales, Disney Meetings
"To get the most out of your Summer social, go up to all of the games/sponsored tables and interact with those around you while you wait in line. Start up a conversation in line at the bar and use the time to learn about who is at the event. Even if you come with friends, break off and mingle with those who have Board Member nametags and really get out and chat with other attendees. Easy intro idea: go up and thank those members who are recognized for planning the event." - Claire Schrott, Catering & Event Planning Specialist, Goodwin Procter LLP

Audio Visual and
Food & Beverage
Last minute changes in these two areas can be critical to the creation of a sophisticated event that will impact your audience for some time. We will undertake to cover both key components, touching on specific issues related to working with the venue, AV team, content, food & beverage, decor, entertainment and union services.
The topic is serious but there will room for excitement as this venue will be hosting their fifth annual Event Technology Showcase at the same time and you will have a chance to experience cutting edge audio visual technology while you network with your peers.

Memories from the June Awards Reception & Board Installation

Last month, our Industry Awards and Board Induction celebration took place amongst a reception scene custom designed for fun, inspiration and excitement. Lead by Terry Mulryan Toomey of Future Affairs Productions, our generous events partners delivered a "Takin' It to the Streets" experience that kept all of us in attendance curious to explore and engage in the sights, sounds and culinary treats on display. The Boston Park Plaza, once again, played the role of gracious host to this memorable evening.
We'd like to extend a sincere thanks to all of our Event Partners for their time and talent in putting together this event:

I am honored to have the opportunity to deliver this monthly publication for all of you this year. For all of our members and non-member industry partners that are unable to participate in our monthly events, it is my goal to deliver valuable education and information through this newsletter.
Send me your contributions! Whether you are an Event Industry Council subject expert or have
unique experience that our readership could learn from, please contact me at nancy.lorusso@babson.edu.
Can you share a little of your background and how you started in the industry?
I have a very vivid memory from Middle School when everyone in my class had to answer that classic questions, 'What do you want to be when you grow up?". My immediate answer was 'Hotel Manager!" While the experience that lead me to that response remains fuzzy, the path was clear from a very early age. The global perspective and opportunities that our industry offers motivated me to embark on a career in hospitality & tourism management.
Can you share one of your most memorable MPINE stories?
Sue Korycansky and I co-chaired the August 2015 Educational Program at the Crown Plaza Newton. We put together a stellar panel of Meeting Planners for what turned out to be the most well attended August meeting on record. This was a truly gratifying experience but what makes it the most memorable was that as a result, Sue and I cultivated a friendship and 3 months later found ourselves working together at Babson. The power of MPI is huge.
