Educational Message - Central

Don't miss this month's exciting topic at a great venue, Traveler's Rest! Our own Michael Owen will be teaching us about Room Block Poaching.

Here's the low down on the topic you won't want to miss:

Room Block Poaching has been around for years but what makes it relevant for today and tomorrow is the new data emerging about the adverse effects and where and how the harm is affecting event organizers and their stakeholders.  How will you know if you are a poaching victim?  If you are, how will you deal with it?  Do you know where the greatest harm to your event and your organization lies?

Attend this interactive session and...

* Hear the latest data from the Convention Industry Council APEX Room Block Poaching Survey.

* Identify the various ways pirates can adversely affect your budget, brand, attendee experience, and more.

* Share best practices to address this growing problem.

How to Be a Mentor
Anne Hamilton is vice president of Resort Sales and Services at Disney Destinations and also a member of the MPI International Board of Directors and wrote an article regarding mentoring others which was published in the July issue of Pulse.

"One of the greatest gifts you can give someone is knowledge that helps them grow their career and become a better person. And one of the greatest compliments you can receive is for someone to seek out your experience and trust you to help them further their career."
MPI Connections
Article by Kristen Richardson, Emdeon

Anyone who attended this year's gala was in awe of the gorgeous skyline view the Country Music Hall of Fame provided. Like many, it was my first time visiting the "Event Hall" which the new space is named and I was not disappointed. I think one of the many benefits of my MPI membership is having access to see either brand new or newly remodeled venues, hotels and restaurants when they first open. I know I am not alone when saying there just are not enough hours in the day so being able to see these venues during our monthly meetings and networking opportunities is killing two birds with one stone.

In the week following the gala I was approached about a meeting our company was hosting and the one of the requests I was given from the CEO was he wanted something unique and that showcased Nashville to our newly hired executives new to the city. Perfect I thought, I know just the place! I immediately got on our MPI TN directory and looked for the sales contact at CMHOF. Within a few days we had a signed contract. The venue did not disappoint as I received overwhelming responses from attendees on the view the venue provided during the meeting.  Some comments from our attendees were "the backdrop to the speaker platform was incredible seeing the Nashville skyline"  and "meeting space was phenomenal". At the end of the meeting on his way out our CEO stopped by as I was packing up and said to me that he has heard so much positive feedback on the venue to go ahead and contract next quarter! So before I had even left the venue I contacted their sales department asking for availability. Not only was our events team praised for an amazing venue, I did business directly with other MPI members. Don't forget when you do business with other MPI members to log the connection HERE
Central Region Community Service Project - LP PENCIL Box
Many students in our community come to school without the supplies they need to be successful. Their families are making tough financial choices and some are unable to afford basic school supplies children need to learn. Teachers often spend their own money each year on classroom supplies. LP PENCIL Box is a community solution to this problem. It is a place for Metro Nashville Public School teachers to shop for new school supplies for their students and classrooms at no cost. We are able to stock the store through generous donations from the Nashville community and our PENCIL Partners, many of whom host supply drives on our behalf. By donating school supplies and hosting supply drives, you can help meet a critical need in Metro Schools.

To help our Metro teachers MPI:TN will be collecting new school supplies at our Central Region meeting August 20.  Please bring basic school supplies such as pencils, colored pencils, paper, blunt tip scissors, spiral notebooks, rulers, highlighters, glue, crayons, etc. To find out more about LP PENCIL Box, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwIF7qrVr8I
Member Announcements and News!
We would like to congratulate one of our members, Shellye Harrell (formerly Sharpton) at BBJ Linens, on her recent marriage to Keevin Harrell. The couple met on New Year's Eve and married June 28th in Nashville, TN. They honeymooned in beautiful Playa del Carmen and are now settling into their new home in Franklin, TN.

Please join us in welcoming Bradley James Pfranger Jr "James" into the world. He was born on June 9th weighing 8lb 10oz. Both Jessica and James are doing well and he loves spending time with his new big sister, Scarlett.

A tiny bundle is expected in the Cardona family tied with a pink ribbon soon! That's right, our president Tammy and her husband are expecting a baby girl, aka a future MPI:TN member!
