Volunteers can be a planner's biggest asset or biggest headache. Those who are shepherded well become invaluable partners in your mission, but those who are managed poorly end up creating more work. How do you equip volunteers to serve your organization well and operate as an extension of your staff? Consider adding these tips to your to-do list as you recruit for your next event.
  • Connect the dots.
  • Set expectations.
  • Keep them engaged.
  • Express gratitude before, during and after.

Member Spotlight - Jessica Mosely, Student Member
I was born and raised in Memphis, TN where I still reside.
I graduated from Germantown High School in 2007 and still a Red Devil at heart.  I started my college career at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga.  After a year in attendance, I came to realize that it was not for me due to the distance from my family.  After taking almost a year off from my education, I enrolled in Southwest Tennessee Community College August 2009.  While there, I received my Associates of Applied Science with a concentration in Psychology December 2012.  After taking another semester break, I knew I did not want to pursue a career in Psychology.  I wanted to obtain my bachelor's degree, yet in what I was unsure.  A close family friend and former employee at Hilton Worldwide suggested the Hospitality Industry.  I always trusted her judgment so I figured I would give it a try.  I looked into the program at the University of Memphis and fell in love with it.

While in my senior year, I was introduced to Meeting Professionals International by Mr. Antwone Stigall and was instantly hooked.  I became an active member in 2014 and never looked back.  Shortly after becoming an official member, I was appointed Vice President, then later President of the TN student chapter.  I want to live up to my presidential duties and continue to learn and grow in order to be the best in my position and my profession.  I maintain a 3.5 GPA in my program and recently gained recognition in the Fall 2014 semester for becoming a member of the University of Memphis Dean's List.  As the upcoming semester at the Kemmons Wilson School commences, I have been chosen as a recipient of the Frank Flautt scholarship, IHG Current Expendable scholarship, and the InterContinental Hotel Groups scholarship for the 2015-2016 school year. I am overly excited and grateful for the aid I have received thus far and know the sky is the limit.  When not at school or focusing on MPI, one can find me spending time with family and friends.
