CFMS BUILDING NEWSLETTER
March 3, 2018

Dear CFMS Families,

Happy March! It was great seeing so many of you at our parent/teacher conferences on Thursday night. If you didn’t get an opportunity to schedule a time to meet with a teacher, please feel free to reach out to those individuals. Teachers will work with you to find a time that fits your schedule. We place high value in the relationship piece of educating our students. Our teachers appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your child as it allows them to increase learning opportunities within their classrooms.

As hard as this next topic is to broach, I believe it's of high value that there is a very united home/school connection given the relevance it plays in keeping all of our children safe. With the recent episode in Parkland, Florida, I wanted to take the opportunity to provide some important numbers that can be used when concerns arise. If your child has a phone, encourage them to enter these numbers in their device for easy access. I also encourage you to have conversations with your children regularly. Ask questions, be in their business and always feel free to communicate with us should you ever have concerns. Most importantly, remind your child frequently that if they see something they should always say something.

Finally, I look forward to seeing many of you at the pancake breakfast tomorrow (March 4th) between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM in the Middle School Cafe. There will be lots of prizes and fun activities for kids. See all the details below!

As always, if you need anything, please feel free to contact me whenever you need.

Safer Ohio Tip Line

The single greatest deterrent of an act of violence is identification and intervention with at risk students. All students, parents and staff must feel comfortable expressing concern and alerting the appropriate individual(s) when concerns arise. The state of Ohio has an anonymous tip line that can be reached via text or call with any issue of concern, 1-844-SaferOH  (844-723-3764 ). This line is monitored by analysts at the Ohio Homeland Security Threat Assessment and Prevention Unity at all times.

HOME/SCHOOL CONNECTIONS
Welcome

Please welcome Tony Loewer to Chagrin Falls Schools. Tony will serve in the role of School Management Coordinator (My role before moving to Interim Principal while Mrs. Discenza is on maternity leave) for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year. Tony brings a wealth of knowledge to our district and has quickly began to build relationships with staff and students on the 4-12 campus.

Thought Exchange

We need your help! We have launched a platform for our community, parents, and staff to share thoughts on what they think Chagrin Falls Schools is doing well, where the district can improve, and most importantly, how they envision our schools into the future. This platform is called ThoughtExchange and every staff member and parent in the district should have received an email inviting them to participate in the exchange. Additionally, every community member should have received a postcard inviting them into the process. If you have not participated in the conversation, we ask that everyone take a few minutes to enter the exchange. This is your school district and we need your input to move it in the right direction.

A Message from the School Counselor, Mr. Patterson:

With the end of the quarter approaching, it can be a stressful time for students, especially when missing work has piled up that may seem insurmountable. Checking Infinite Campus may cause even more anxiety, as students may not always know where to begin or what will still be accepted for points. Students may need assistance sitting down and mapping out a plan that is realistic and effective. Encourage your child to reach out to his/her teachers either in person or via email to see what may still be turned in for credit. Teachers love hearing from students who are motivated to improve. Utilize this list to prioritize an action plan each night that is manageable to get done what can be done. Then encourage these better habits to continue into fourth quarter to prevent the situation from happening again.

Please encourage your child to come see me anytime as well if I can help them handle their stress/anxiety and manage this plan!
