CFMS BUILDING NEWSLETTER
February 19, 2018

Dear CFMS Families,

This week 8th graders met a Holocaust survivor Face to Face. Mr. Bernath shared an engaging & powerful personal story. He inspired students to value one another and taught that what we do or choose not to do matters.

At CFMS we are proactive and focus on having a positive culture. We work to be aware and accepting of diversity, therefore we get involved with programs that expose students to opportunities that reaffirm this value.

Visiting Congregation Shaarey Tikvah will have a lasting impact on our school beyond that of a lesson or team activity. It will become part of our belief system and hopefully help us to all value one another a little more.

If you are looking for a way to extend last week’s trip you can celebrate Presidents’ Day with a free, family-friendly day at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage - Participate in hands-on activities and crafts; plus, you’ll have the chance to hear from past presidents such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, FDR, and more!

There are other activities around Northeast Ohio today, as well:
  • Bird Scavenger Hunt at Cleveland Museum of Natural History
  • Free Admission at Akron Zoo
  • Farmer Monday at Lake Metroparks Farmpark
  • Medina Ice Festival in Medina Square.

Today, try something new, enjoy time with your family and reinforce the importance of respecting differences. It is necessary that we try not to gravitate towards everything similar to ourselves. If we do we may miss out on many interesting experiences.

Proud to be a Tiger!

A Message from the School Counselor, Mr. Patterson:
How do you teach empathy?

One of the best ways to encourage empathy is to make children conscious of what they have in common with others as a human being. Another is to get out and meet people from different backgrounds and to learn and talk about what life is like in far away places.

Studies suggest that we boost empathy in students when we foster multiculturalism -- an inclusive, warm attitude about cultural diversity. Moreover, this enhanced empathy is linked with increased happiness and scholastic achievement.
