The Environmental Remote Sensing Advisor will support the Commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (CNMOC) by assessing environmental remote sensing programs throughout the meteorology and oceanography (METOC) community and reporting on capability gaps and future strategies. The Environmental Remote Sensing Specialist will regularly liaison with program managers at CNMOC and its subordinate organizations, the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) and the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) and occasionally liaison with other organizations in the METOC community like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL).
 

The ideal candidate will have 7 or more years experience with environmental remote sensing tools and techniques with increasing levels of responsibility. The candidate should have a background with foreign, domestic, and commercial satellite imagery and an understanding of meteorological and physical oceanographic modeling. Project or program management experience is a plus.


 

 

Job Duties

 

  • Evaluate the capabilities of the various imagery exploitation programs and collection systems accessible to the METOC community.
  • Assess the imagery needs of the federal agencies producing METOC models.

  • Develop and deliver reports and presentations regarding requirement gaps in the imagery exploitation programs.

  • Provide recommendations for strategies that address requirement gaps.

  • Advise CNMOC program management on future needs to effectively maintain and enhance METOC modeling capabilities.

 

Required Experience:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in, Remote Sensing, Meteorology, Oceanography, Geographic Information Systems, Engineering, or other relevant technical field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of meteorological or oceanographic modeling processes and techniques, especially as they relate to sensor data.

  • Experience with briefing senior leadership.

  • Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
