MSNJ & Organized Medicine Seek Amendments to MACRA/MIPS
MSNJ and virtually all of organized medicine signed a letter
authored by the AMA
to Congress seeking amendments to Medicare's merit-based incentive payment (MIPS) program. The amendments are necessary to preserve flexibility and extend the time for practices to implement the new quality payment program. Deadline extensions are necessary to phase in consideration of costs and to remove medications from the program.

UPDATE: UHC Delays Consult Code Policy
In July, MSNJ was joined by 36 medical and specialty societies in a
letter to United Healthcare (UHC) opposing its proposed policy change to no longer pay for consultation CPT codes 99241-99245 and 99251-99255 for dates of service on and after October 1.
A couple of weeks ago, we announced in e-News that UHC intended to delay implementation of the policy. This week, UHC formally announced the delay in its
October 2017 Network Bulletin. MSNJ continues to ask that UHC respond to the concerns outlined in our letter and provide more information regarding the length of the delay. We will keep our members apprised of new developments in e-News.
New Narrow Network Horizon Medicare Advantage Product
Horizon
announced this week that it will offer a new Medicare Advantage product during open enrollment for the 2018 plan year. Horizon has chosen select providers from its Managed Care Network to participate in the Medicare Blue Advantage HMO plan. Letters were mailed last week to
participating and
non-participating providers along with an
FAQ regarding the program. Physicians are urged to review the plan criteria in Horizon's Administrative Policy, "Participation Status in Products That Utilize Tiering and/or a Subset of an Existing Horizon Network" available on NaviNet. Please
send us your questions or concerns.
