Birthday Celebration for Pastor Ulysses Stephen King, Jr.
Sunday, July 22, 2018 following Morning Worship Service

"Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches." - Galatians 6:6-10 NKJV

If you know P astor Ulysses Stephen King, Jr., you already know he is frowning at this post in the newsletter. BUT as sheep, we will honor the shepherd! We - the sheep - are taught the word, and Pastor is the one who teaches! We honor God for keeping him, covering him, directing him, protecting him, loving him, providing for him, restoring him, refreshing him, and guiding him.

While we can honor him with cards, gifts, online posts, and voicemails in advance of his birthday which is July 23, there is one thing he wants more than anything. He wants you... yes YOU ...to worship Christ along with him. Join him in worship and praise Sunday, July 22 at 10:30AM at Memorial Tabernacle Church. #PastorUSKBDay

Sermon Summary | July 15, 2018
( John 4:1-14; Isaiah 12:1-3 )

As a young girl growing up in Georgia I recall my grandmother sending me out into the fields to draw water from the well. We used that water in the same way we use it today: for cleaning, washing clothes (by hand in a tub), for cooking, and for drinking. I understood then, as I do today, how important water is to our daily living.

Jesus’ conversation with this woman at Jacob’s well was life giving. It literally changed her life. The nation of Israel was well aware of what life in a desert entailed, so they knew well the importance of water for daily survival. Since water is so essential for human life, it should be no surprise then that God is often referred to in Scripture as being like Living Water to us, or as providing us with Living Water.

God is this Spring of Living Water who continually gives life to us. In those days, there were two main sources of water, such as flowing and clean water from natural springs or still water from humanly made cisterns or wells. Springs of water were preferred as healthier and more natural. Cisterns were often broken and leaky and limited even when properly working in what they could hold. This analogy reminds us that anytime we seek life from something or someone else, from the created rather than from our Creator, it will be less than what God plans for us.

Water is also linked to God’s offer of salvation and new life. In Isaiah 12:1-3, for example, says, “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” God offers us to save us, to give us life, if we are willing to draw from His wells.

Jesus invites each of us to come to Him if we have a spiritual thirst. But we must first acknowledge and admit our need for Him. Too many people today are in denial of their spiritual needs, or too often, they look to satisfy their needs in the wrong places or in the wrong ways. Jesus is promising us that we will have an abundant and dynamic life if we drink from the water He offers us. —USK
Preparing for the Harvest
Jesus said in Luke 6:38, “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
