Reflections on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. | A DAY OF PROGRESS
By Pastor Ulysses Stephen King, Jr.

"We've got some difficult days ahead, but it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop."

"And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place, but I'm not concerned about that now, I just want to do God's will."  -- Martin Luther King, Jr. from his speech at Mason Temple (Church of God in Christ in Memphis, Tenn., April 3, 1968) just before he died.

Let us all honor the memory of Dr. King by beginning every day with the strong desire to do God's will. This isn't a day to muddle through and hide in a crowd or a cubicle or at home. This is a day of progress as led by the Holy Spirit.

A memorial plaque was placed at the Lorraine Motel where King was shot. The inscription is from Genesis 37:19-20 (abbreviated):
"They said one to another, Behold, here cometh the dreamer.
Let us slay him and we shall see what becomes of his dreams."

So much good has come from the dreams of Martin Luther King Jr. Let's keep the dream alive by doing God's will.

View the program to read the sponsors, vendors, entertainment, volunteers, and committee! And yes, we are planning on being a part of the team to host it again in 2019! Save the date for Saturday, April 20, 2019!
Resurrection Sermon Summary: "NO JOKE!" (Luke 24:1-11)
You see, one of the problems with religion is that, in too many cases, just like with Mary and the women, it sends us looking for somebody that's not there, and we end up doing stuff we don't need to do because God has already moved on. Some of us in here this morning are following traditions and religious stuff that remind us of where Jesus was, but they don't get us to where he is. I want to be where He is.

But then, religion will not only take you to a grave; it will put you in a grave where there is no Jesus. It's in the text: "They found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher and they entered in and found not the body of the Lord Jesus." Now, look at this. They came to the grave, walk in the grave—no Jesus, but they're in the grave. They're in the grave, but He's not there. A whole lot of us have walked around looking for Jesus, using religion as our road map, and we've ended up in a grave with no Jesus. That’s no joke, that’s just dumb!

We've got to believe in the truth of his death, burial, and resurrection. There are few things Christians don't debate across denominations. And those are that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. No joke! That He was born of a virgin. No joke! That He walked the streets of Jerusalem, healing the sick and raising the dead. No joke! That He suffered under Pontius Pilate. No joke! That He prayed in a garden till sweat like drops of blood ran down his face. No joke! That they put Him up on an old rugged cross. No joke! That He went down into the grave. No joke! But then early, early Sunday morning, He got up with all power in His hands. No joke! And today, if you want to come out of your grave and walk in the fullness of that resurrection power, just accept more Jesus-more Jesus. It’s no joke! He lives!—USK
