This Week at Memorial...
There is an old saying, “You can’t go home again”, but this is what we often do on “Mother’s Day”. Our thoughts quite naturally turn to home and family. Sometimes it is a hard journey to take, but for most it is a sentimental journey that warms the heart and swells us with good memories.
We can almost smell the aroma of the old home place – food cooking on the stove, the smell of freshly cut grass, the essence of the flowers in the Spring of the year all combine to stimulate memory. There are the sounds of voices – now silent in this world, but voices we can somehow never forget. Words of advice remembered, but we thought were idle word come echoing to us just when we need them.
I am glad there is a day set aside to honor our Mothers and I can think of no better way than going to church with them or coming to the church to remember them. I am glad there is a special day when we can go home once more.

Sunday's Scripture:
Matthew 20:20-22 (CEB)
Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus along with her sons. Bowing before him, she asked a favor of him.
“What do you want?” he asked.
She responded, “Say that these two sons of mine will sit, one on your right hand and one on your left, in your kingdom.”
Jesus replied, “You don’t know what you’re asking! Can you drink from the cup that I’m about to drink from?”
They said to him, “We can.”

Stephen Minister Training
at Memorial
Mondays, 6:00PM – 8:00PM
Sept. 10 th – Dec. 10 th
Refreshments will be served at every meeting.
Stephen Ministers are laypeople trained to provide one-to-one Christ-centered care to those who are hurting. They’ve been equipped with caring ministry skills by their congregation’s Stephen Leaders. A Stephen Minister typically has one care receiver at a time and meets with that person once a week for about an hour to listen, care, pray, encourage and offer emotional and spiritual support. Stephen Minister training is engaging and includes a mixture of lectures and video, group discussions, skill practice, and spiritual growth activities. Continuing education takes place twice a month after commissioning. More than 600,000 Stephen Ministers have provided care to millions of people.
