This Week at Memorial...
I am very excited about this coming Saturday and Sunday. I am going to be able to share one of my best friends, John Riley, with my church family in Fernandina Beach.
John is not only a good friend, but he is a great speaker and has one of the most effective styles of witnessing I have ever known. He is a layperson who shares his witness of Jesus Christ all over the world.
Some of our members of Memorial Church have heard him speak at the Lay Retreats at the retreat center in Leesburg and they join me in being excited.
John will speak at a breakfast for the whole church on Saturday, May 19th at 8:00AM and then will speak at all three services on Sunday. I hope you will take part in these special services and that you will invite your friends.
I think God wants to give us something through the witness of John Riley.

Is God calling you to be a Stephen Minister?
Stephen Minister Training
at Memorial
Mondays, 6:00PM – 8:00PM
Sept. 10 th – Dec. 10 th
Refreshments will be served at every meeting.
Stephen Ministers are laypeople trained to provide one-to-one Christ-centered care to those who are hurting. They’ve been equipped with caring ministry skills by their congregation’s Stephen Leaders. A Stephen Minister typically has one care receiver at a time and meets with that person once a week for about an hour to listen, care, pray, encourage and offer emotional and spiritual support. Stephen Minister training is engaging and includes a mixture of lectures and video, group discussions, skill practice, and spiritual growth activities. Continuing education takes place twice a month after commissioning. More than 600,000 Stephen Ministers have provided care to millions of people.

Mission
This month's mission highlight is Branches! Established in 1973 as the urban and social justice agency for the South East District of the Florida Conference, Branches has developed programs that focus on the root causes of poverty and address the critical needs of area families. Branches engages children, youth, and adults with life-changing opportunities to help them become better educated and more financially stable. Along with these programs, Branches helps these families make long-term, positive life choices and to know God.
For over 10 years, Memorial has partnered with Branches by supporting them financially and by sending youth mission teams to lead a VBS-style program during Branches’ summer program for children. Your gifts will allow Branches to take their students on summer trips, including to the Conference Youth Camp, and also to purchase much needed supplies. For more information, visit Branchesfl.org .
