MYC Thanksgiving meal
for the kids made for over 100!
On behalf of the Milford Youth Center staff, we would like to express how grateful we are for all the companies, families and individuals that made our Thanksgiving meal for the kids a huge success! We were able to serve over 100 kids with a nice hot meal as well as donate leftovers to the Milford Fire Department and local families in need. The Milford Fire Department allowed us to use their oven to keep food warm before we served it. We would like to thank our local community companies Pizza Palace, Pizza Chef, TGI Friday's, Oliva's Market, Catering & Gourmet Gifts, Gene's Variety and Casa Brasil for each donating a side dish for our meal. Than you Mary DiAntonio, Price Chopper and Stop and Shop for the monetary donations to allow us to get supplies we needed to serve the meal; For each family or JAG youth council member that donated a dish, dessert or donated time, the Alvarez family, the Walsh family, the Barrios family, the Hayes, the Dulude family, the Legere and De Jesus family, the Mobilia family, the Kidman family, the Brigoili family, the Fisher family, and the Johnson family-thank you all for the delicious food and for helping serve our kids! Lastly, our board members, Susie Salamone, Sandy Sandra Caproni and Michael Walsh for donating food and helping supervise and serve the meal!
Jingle Bell Jamboree, Santa Parade
& other holiday events!
We had a weekend full of holiday activities at the Youth Center! Our JAG Youth Council members, along with some volunteers and board members, supervised our Jingle Bell Jamboree.  We had holiday arts and crafts to make and bring home, letters to write to Santa, face painting, our castle jumpy, cookie decorating, hot chocolate donated by the Girl Scouts and pictures with Santa! It was a nice way to socialize with families of the community before the big Santa Parade!! The Youth Centers float this year was themed based on the new movie Trolls.  Staff and volunteers worked hard all morning to put it all together in time for the parade.  We had over 40 kids riding on the float through town!! We would like to especially thank: John & Darlene Dulude, Sabrina Flores, Joe Graziano, Shawn Lescoe, Devon Despres, Brenda Wheelock, Sandra Caproni, Susan Salamone and Arts & Towing for lending us a truck for the parade!!! Check out the Youth Center float at minute 50:30!!!

Other Holiday events that were held at the Youth Center last weekend were the Gala of Trees event to raise money to support the "guardian angel" fund hosted by the Milford Jr. Women's Club and the Vineyard Church of Hopkinton put on a Christmas movie called "Why Do We Call It Christmas?" for kids and families to come in and enjoy some snacks and learn about the holiday.  The Milford Fire Department also had their Santa 2K end of the race festivities at the Center! We are already looking into more advertising and planning to make these yearly traditions even more popular for next year!
Nutrition class is a hit!
Our second cooking class was a success! With $500 worth of new cooking supplies donated by Ron Taylor we made french toast that the kids loved and now know how to make for their entire family. We also discussed using whole wheat bread instead of white and the children compared real maple syrup with the artificial brand. We're hoping they are bringing their skills home.
Taekwondo at the MYC!
Taekwondo started at the Center this month thanks to our volunteer Nick and was a huge hit! We asked Nick to introduce himself to the community and write a little bit about his experience with Taekwondo and why he choose to join us at the Center!

"I've been a taekwondo athlete ever since I was 5, spending endless hours training and getting to travel all over the country competing in regional, national, and international championships. I had to stop training once I got into co llege, but I've always loved the sport and plan on staying involved in this sport's community, whether by teaching or training again. Throughout my career in this sport, my most esteemed accomplishments include winning the USA Taekwondo National Championship four times and, my personal favorite, winning gold at the U.S. Open in the 18+ Black Belt division at 16 years old."

"I wanted to spend some time here at the MYC volunteering so that I could influence the youth of my hometown by leading as a role model, whether in academics or sports. As a biomedical engineering student at WPI, I feel that if can convince some of them about how rewarding a career in STEM can be, I will have helped my local community. Recently I started think about what I would do once I decided to stopped being an engineer, and I decided that I would love to teach in high school. Although I'll soon be busy pursuing my professional career, I want to always come back to Milford and give back to the community."
Millis Model Aircraft Club is taking off with the after school program

The  MYC & JAG work together to provide resources and opportunities for youth to make healthy decisions. The MYC & JAG have worked to provide local youth with the necessary activities and events that help them develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally through their childhood years. By providing Milford youth with these types of programs and a safe environment during the after school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promoting the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford.
