First Friday Night Youth Event a Success!

Mark- Youth Council member

Over 70 local youth flocked to the Youth Center last Friday night from 7-10 pm to enjoy sports games, raffle prizes, pizza and a magician! Youth also learned about homelessness, a topic that the members of the JAG Youth Council decided to focus on for their first event. All who attended were charged a small fee of $2.00 per person or $1.00 if you donated a toiletry item. All donations will go to the Milford Housing Authority and the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.

"We are extremely proud of all the hard work that the JAG/MYC Youth Council members did to make this event happen. It was their ideas, their efforts and their event and it went off perfectly. Everyone who attended had a great time and look forward to the next event" - Juvenile Advocacy group/ Milford Youth Commission

We would like to thank the many local organizations and businesses that provided donations and raffles prizes: Zizi Pizza and Grill in Hopedale, McDonald's of Milford, South Bridge Pizza, Target of Milford, PINZ Entertainment, Dudley's Music, Robins Nest, Milford Sports Center, BVT and Tim Snow for doing caricatures. We would like to express a special thank you to all the volunteers and members of the JAG Youth Council, who worked for over a month to plan this event for the community.

Funding for "Find Yourself Fridays" is supported by the United Way of Tri-County Youth Venture Program and CHNA-6. The next Friday event will be held in March!

20 years ago Lisa Vasile was woken from a deep sleep at 4am with a call from her commanding officer.  The words will never leave her brain "Lt. Watters...we have gone to war; report for duty in MOP4 ASAP!" Lisa was 21 years old and scared to imagine the horrible injuries she was going to see.

According to Lisa, "Desert Storm was fast (but ugly)... "Black hawk down" was unspeakable.... I spent only 5.5 years in the Army and would never want to take that experience away from my life as I truly believe it built a stronger and more open me... and of course; I was so thankful that I never had an injury or saw things at the front line. However; there are so many who come home with many injuries, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and psychiatric trauma (PTSD) and there are few places offered for the returning vets and their families."

This year Lisa will be running in a 9k through Boston to help raise money for these families and would be incredibly honored for your support.  All runners MUST raise $1000.00 If you can donate; please click on the link below - click on "support a runner" - and type in her name "Lisa Vasile."
