On May 30th the 2011 SCI Social Capitalist Luncheon was held in Boston. The event was a tremendous success, with 355 guests and over $73,000 raised to support SCI's efforts to develop social capitalists. Social Capital Inc. is a non-profit organization based out of Woburn that looks to strengthen communities by connecting diverse individuals and organizations through civic engagement initiatives.

SCI is currently working on this mission and vision in 9 Massachusetts locations, including Milford. SCI currently has an SCI AmeriCorps member serving in conjunction with JAG and the Milford Youth Center to build youth leadership opportunities through the efforts of the JAG Youth Council.

As a result of the luncheon success, the JAG Youth Council was granted $1,000 to give out mini-grants. These mini-grants will be given to youth-initiated projects, where youth must come up with the idea for the project, and complete the application with an adult acting in a strictly advisory role. Grant requests must be between $100-$1,000. Applications are due by May 20th.

Thank you Braza Construction!

MYC stairs

The Milford Youth Center would like to thank Braza Construction and the entire Braza family for the incredible job they did repairing the stairs at the Milford Youth Center.   When Paul Braza noticed the stairs deteriorating he went forward and asked his father Joe to assess the stairs and see what could be done. Joe saw the need and got his crew together to make all the necessary repairs. The Children of our community are extremely fortunate to have such caring families and businesses, such as Braza Construction, to help support the Youth Center.
