JAG Awarded
The Peter R. Lee Healthy Communities Award

We are proud to announce that the Juvenile Advocacy Group was awarded The Peter R. Lee Healthy Communities Award at this year's Ounce of Prevention Conference on Tuesday, April 7th at the DCU Center in Worcester!

Ounce of Prevention, Working Together for Healthier Communities, is a statewide conference designed to bring together a wide range of stakeholders in support of healthier and more equitable communities in Massachusetts. In recognition of this, The Peter R. Lee Healthy Communities Award honors a coalition/partnership for their collaborative work to create healthier and more equitable communities. This award honors the spirit of Peter Lee, the late Director of the Massachusetts Partnership for Healthy Communities at Health Resources in Action. Peter was a leader in the healthy communities movement in Massachusetts and across the country before his untimely death on December 25, 2012. He personified the principles of Healthy Communities in his professional and personal life and was a longtime participant and organizer of this conference. We are very grateful to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for this honor!

JAG Meeting

The adult JAG Coalition will have its next meeting on Wed., May 6th, at 8:45 am, at the Milford Police Station Training room. JAG would also like to congratulate Officer John Tiernan, who received the "School Resource Officer of the Year" from the Massachusetts Juvenile Police Offers Association!

The Juvenile Advocacy Group (JAG) provides an opportunity for youth, parents, community agencies, schools, state and local institutions, volunteers and our faith communities to network, coordinate services, identify and respond to emerging needs in the Greater Milford community. Through youth-adult collaboration JAG seeks to engage all sectors in the Greater Milford Area to promote healthy development for youth and families by reducing substance use, lowering risk factors and strengthening protective factors. For more information, contact Amy Leone

MYC/JAG Relay for Life Team!

The JAG Youth Council and Milford Youth Center will participate in the Relay for Life of Greater Milford for the third year in a row, on Saturday, May 16th! The JAG Youth Council decided that they wanted to participate in Milford's Relay for Life to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. Relay teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around the high school. Relay events are up to 24 hours in length and, because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. To donate to the MYC & JAG team, click here. To see photos from last year's event, click here.

We would like to thank everyone who has donated to our team so far! We would also like to thank all the Milford Town Hall departments that participated in Scratch 'N' Give to help support our MYC/JAG Relay For Life team! We also have an exiting fundraiser to help support our team! SportsClips Haircuts of Milford has partnered with the Center, allowing participants to use a coupon for $2 off their haircut! For every coupon used, $2 will also be donated to our MYC/JAG Relay for Life team! If you would like a coupon, stop by the Center or contact us at 508-473-1756!

Juvenile Advocacy Group (JAG) mission is to work with its community partners to bring resources together to prevent substance abuse and address other emerging needs in the community. The Massachusetts communities included in JAG's service area are the towns of Milford, Bellingham and Hopedale. Through JAG's programs and services youth and their families are able to gain the information and resources to help live and lead healthier lives.  For more information, click here.

Milford Youth Center (MYC) mission is to provide a safe environment that promotes self esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. For more information, click here.

The MYC & JAG work together to provide resources and opportunities for youth to make healthy decisions. The MYC & JAG have worked to provide local youth with the necessary activities and events that help them develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally through their childhood years. By providing Milford youth with these types of programs and a safe environment during the after school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promoting the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford.
