The Milford Youth Center has become the focal point for the children of Milford. It hosts many different activities and events throughout the year for the youth! The Milford Youth Center's after school program is open for youth ages 8-18, free of charge, from 2-6 pm Monday through Friday (check monthly calendar for any changes). All Youth members must be picked up by time of closing (unless they walk home).  Pick up is outside of the building on 24 Pearl St.  There may be additional permission forms to participate, due to some programs being held off site (Transportation is not provided). The game room, gymnasium
and lounge, will be opened daily.

A ll participant s must be a Milford resident and/or attend Milford Schools, to fill out a  registration form  to be a member. Once this form is returned to the Center, the member will be provided with a key tag and ID number. This will be how the Youth Center staff will track attendance. Therefore, all members are required to bring in their key tag in order to enter the facility. If key tag is lost, the Center will charge $1.00 for replacement . You can find out all up-to-date info at our website

Thank you Stacy Middle School and Woodland Elementary for allowing us to come in to do outreach!

Nutrition Program at the MYC!
On November 2nd we held our first cooking and nutrition class. This initiative is in part funded by a CHNA-6 grant we received earlier this year. This program will focus on increasing physical activity and fruit and vegetable consumption, switching from sugary drinks to water, choosing whole grain and healthy fat foods, and limiting screen time. While enforcing these healthy principals we will also be incorporating cooking skills, as the kids participate in our meal p reparation classes that happen weekly on Tuesdays. Each month will be themed; November being, "mini meals you can make yourself'.

This week the kids made mini pizzas on whole wheat pitas; the idea being, this is something they can make for themselves in the toaster oven when they arrive home from school.
We had a huge interest in this class and hope to maintain the popularity by keeping this and all of our programs fun, yet educational, here at the Youth Center. W
e would also like to extend a huge thank you to Ron Taylor for donating over $500 of kitchen supplies for the program!  Any questions about the nutrition program or any other programs taking place at the Youth Center can contact Christine Daddario here
Thank you to our volunteers at the MYC!
We had a full of month of volunteers that we would like to give a shout out too! Thank you to Vineyard Church in Hopkinton for organizing a group to paint our movie room wall! Thank you to MYC after school volunteer Nick and YOU Inc. EFE student Jermey for coming in to help Youth Center staff empty out and organize an area in the basement to set up for our Halloween party! Thank you to volunteers John and Chris for helping youth center staff put up a TV mount for our new TV for the lounge area for the kids!

Volunteers are always welcome to assist with the after school program! We are always looking for help during the after school hours, 2-6 PM. This month, we would like to thank are awesome after school volunteers: Amos Friedner, Darlene Dulude, Ron Taylor and Nick Silva!

You may also run a program/activity during the after school program. We also need volunteers for our monthly evening events.  Please contact our Program Coordinator, Christine Daddario here   if you would like to volunteer and complete this volunteer form !

We would like to thank MYC After School and JAG Youth Council member, Julia Kidman for deciding to do her Girl Scout Silver Award project for the Milford Youth Center! The Silver Award is  the highest award a  Girl Scout Cadette  can earn-gives the Girl Scout the chance to show that they are a leader who is organized, determined, and dedicated to improving their community.

Julia's project, entitled "Share the Reading" was created because she said " at the Youth Center, kids can participate in sports, video games, arts/crafts but some kids don't want to do that, they like to read, and there isn't really a space or any sort of books for them to use to do this. I selected project because I have liked being there and wanted to do something that the Youth Center needed to have."  Therefore, Julia took it upon herself to create a library/reading area for the Center, located upstairs, adjacent to the homework room! Thank you to Julia and all the community members who donated books to her cause!
Thank you for Donations - October 2016!
The Youth Center would like to extend a very appreciative thank you to the following people who donated items this month to the Center:

Juvenile Advocacy Group (JAG) mission  is to work with its community partners to bring resources together to prevent substance abuse and address other emerging needs in the community. Through JAG's programs and services youth and their families are able to gain the information and resources to help live and lead healthier lives.  For more information, click here.

Milford Youth Center (MYC) mission  is to provide a safe environment that promotes self esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. For more information, click here.

The  MYC & JAG work together to provide resources and opportunities for youth to make healthy decisions. The MYC & JAG have worked to provide local youth with the necessary activities and events that help them develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally through their childhood years. By providing Milford youth with these types of programs and a safe environment during the after school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promoting the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford.
