 MYC After School Program
 Updates!

We would like to welcome you to the first full month of this school year's Milford Youth Center After School Program at the new location at 27 Congress St (for the duration of the renovation)!

The Milford Youth Center after school program is open for youth ages 8-18, free of charge, from 2-6 pm Monday through Friday (unless otherwise noted on our calendar). Some of the programs this month include the JAG Youth Council, Instructional Boxing (at Rivera Athletic Center), Homework Help, and Movie Day Fridays! The game room is open daily and activities will be open/held outside depending on the weather. On Monday, November 24th, we will be providing the After School members with a Thanksgiving Dinner! If there are any businesses and/or individuals that would like to contribute, please contact the Center at 508-473-1756 or via email. Click here for our full November Calendar!

All participants must fill out a registration form to be a member. Once this form is returned to the Center, the member will be provided with an ID barcode to be placed on the back of their Milford Student ID's (once they are issued). This will be how Youth Center staff will track attendance. Therefore, all members are required to bring in their Milford School ID's in order to enter the facility.  For the MYC Code of Conduct, click here. You can find out all up-to-date info at our website

Volunteers are always welcome to assist with the after school program or during the morning hours! We are always looking for help during the after school hours, 2-6 PM. You may also run a program/activity during the after school program.  We also need volunteers for our monthly evening events. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer and print, sign, and return this form to the Center!

 Thank you from the MYC!!!

We would like to take the time to thank the many volunteers and different businesses and Town Departments/Boards that helped us make the transition and move to the new location of the Center for the duration of the renovation. We realize that we would not have been able to accomplish the move without all your help and truly appreciate it!

We would like to thank Arthur Siipola and Alfred P Scioli, of S & S Realty Trust (and Meg McElroy of Greater Milford Realty) for allowing the Youth Commission to rent the 27 Congress building for the duration of the renovation! We would like to thank Braza Construction and the Milford Sports Center for generously picking up and storing some of our sporting equipment. Thank you Rivera Athletic Center for hosting our Youth boxing program during the duration of the renovation. Thank you to our many volunteers who helped us move items to the new location and to storage: Matt Reardon, Joan and Jack Ward, Sandra Caproni, Mike Cicciu, Rafael Corona, Benjamin De Jesus, Gabby De Jesus, Mike Dehey, Brian Bell,  the Kibbee's,  Milford Football, You Inc.,  Mendon Storage, and Ryder Trucks of MilfordAlso, we would like to thank Pizza Palace for their generosity in providing our volunteers with pizza during the moving process! Thank you Worldband for helping to get our computers and internet up and running at the new location and your continued support of the Center. Finally, we would like to thank the many different departments at the Town Hall who have helped us through this transition: Town Accountant, Treasurer, Clerk, and Administrors. Thank you Paul Mazzuchelli, of the Board of Health, and the Finance Committee for your guidance as well! Lastly, thank you Town Engineer, Vonnie Reis, Selectman Brian Murray, and the entire Renovation Committee for their dedication! We apologize if we accidentally forgot anyone!

MYC Food Collection and Giving Tree!

The Center is always looking for ways to help out and get involved in the community, especially during the Holiday Season! There are two ways you can also get involved!

1. For the month of November, we will be collecting food donations to be donated to the Milford Daily Bread Food Pantry.

2. We will also be organizing an MYC Giving tree this year! Every year, we are lucky to be able to provide many of our Youth Center After School members with gifts through the United Way of Tri-County's "Hope for the Holidays" program and also through the annual collection held at the Rivera Athletic Center! Despite this, we still always have more families that reach out to us for assistance and that's why we are starting our own giving tree this year! We are welcoming individuals and/or businesses to adopt a child or a family!

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact the Center at 508-473-1756 or email us. All drop off's of food donations can be made during the After School hours or scheduling a time with us during the morning hours, starting today (Monday, November 3rd). People can start collecting families and/or individuals for the Giving Tree on November 17th (and gifts will be due back to the Center by December 19th)!

First JAG Meeting!

The adult  JAG Coalition will have its third meeting of the year on Wed., November 5th, at 8:45 am, at the Milford Police Station Training room.

The Juvenile Advocacy Group (JAG) provides an opportunity for youth, parents, community agencies, schools, state and local institutions, volunteers and our faith communities to network, coordinate services, identify and respond to emerging needs in the Greater Milford community. Through youth-adult collaboration JAG seeks to engage all sectors in the Greater Milford Area to promote healthy development for youth and families by reducing substance use, lowering risk factors and strengthening protective factors. For more information, contact Amy Leone

JAG Youth Council Welcome's
Senator Moore!

The JAG Youth Council and Milford Youth Center would like to thank Senator Richard Moore and Tim Harvey for joining us on Wednesday, October 29th, to talk to the group about the importance of getting involved and volunteering in their community!

The Youth Leadership group  is a group of young Milford Youth Center members, in the town of Milford, that are striving to make a difference in the community by facilitating different youth community events and taking part in volunteer opportunities. The JAG Youth Council has started the popular "Find Yourself Friday" youth event series, which has drawn over 100 students to each event. The JAG Youth Council works in cooperation with the Juvenile Advocacy Group and the Milford Youth Center. For more information, please contact Jen Ward. The JAG Youth Council meets every Wednesday, from 3-4 PM, at the MYC.

First Find Yourself Friday a Success!

Over 75 Youth attended the first "Find Yourself Friday" Halloween Youth Dance, on Friday, October 24th! The event included music, snacks/drinks for sale, and prizes for best Halloween Costumes! All proceeds were used to purchase a gift card for Madi Proper and her family to attend a vacation to Great Wolf Lodge. The JAG Youth Council and MYC decided to have all the proceeds to go towards helping to send our MYC/JAG member, Madi, to one of her favorite places, Great Wolf Lodge, because she had a summer full of surgeries and doctors' appointments, due to a brain tumor that was found. Due to her positive attitude and courage, we all thought she deserved to enjoy herself, once she has completely recovered from her recent brain surgery! We would like to thank the School Department for allowing us to use the Middle School East gymnasium for the event and our volunteers, Sandra Caproni and Ryan White! For more pictures of the event, click here.

Juvenile Advocacy Group (JAG) mission is to work with its community partners to bring resources together to prevent substance abuse and address other emerging needs in the community. The Massachusetts communities included in JAG's service area are the towns of Milford, Bellingham and Hopedale. Through JAG's programs and services youth and their families are able to gain the information and resources to help live and lead healthier lives.  For more information, click here.

Milford Youth Center (MYC) mission is to provide a safe environment that promotes self esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. For more information, click here.

The MYC & JAG work together to provide resources and opportunities for youth to make healthy decisions. The MYC & JAG have worked to provide local youth with the necessary activities and events that help them develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally through their childhood years. By providing Milford youth with these types of programs and a safe environment during the after school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promoting the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford.
