The Milford Youth Center would like to thank the numerous volunteers, individuals and organizations that allow us to continue to grow and provide a safe and fun environment for the Youth of Milford!
First we would like to thank the United Way of Tri-County for donating over 25 backpacks to the Center for their 2012 Backpack Drive. The United Way of Tri-County is running their annual back-to-school backpack program! United Way is committed to helping children and youth succeed and ensuring every young person is ready to learn.
The program is a combined effort between area businesses and employees to provide backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year.
The Youth Center would also like to thank UniBank, Artie Morin, Linda Hurts, Soccer Spot, Macy's, Christopher Dube, Teacher's Drivers Academy, Valerie Croce of Berry Plastics Corp. and the Milford Town Library for their generous support and/or donations. We would also like to thank the youth and adult volunteers that helped paint and get the Youth Center ready for the after school program!
Finally the Youth Center would like to thank all the families of the youth who attended our summer camp this year. The camp was a great success and we hope to see you all again next summer! In addition, thank you to all the businesses and organizations that made donations towards the camp. |

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Awards $5,000 Grant to the MYC!
|
The Milford Youth Center would like to thank Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts for awarding the Center with a $5,000 grant for the Center's "Tuttie Fruttie" snack shack.
Member's of the JAG Youth Council received a mini-grant from the United Way of Tri-County's Youth Venture program to start the shack and this grant will allow it to grow even more! The Tuttie Fruttie snack shack will offer, at affordable prices, items such as fruit, yogurt, smoothies and other healthy alternatives. The shack will hold the equipment, snacks, drinks and produce, in addition to providing monthly healthy recipes and information to the youth and families that attend the Center. Currently, there are no snack options at the Center, which is forcing kids to walk across a dangerous/busy street to go to a convenience store where they are choosing unhealthy snacks.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts recognizes that, for too many families, the burdens of chronic diseases and their accompanying health care costs are insurmountable burdens. Good health depends on access to affordable and nutritious food, regular exercise and opportunities for safe recreation. These investments are part of a larger community-based solution aimed at the public health challenges associated with obesity, malnutrition, declining fitness, and health issues related to poverty-especially in the areas of early childhood and youth development. Of equal importance, these grants will enhance recreational opportunities that will help nurture families and strengthen communities.

Youth may bring a pair of sneakers/shoes at the day of the event to get $1 off the $3 admission fee to the event.
Find Yourself Fridays is a once-per-month event held at the Milford Youth Center on a Friday night. This event gives youth a safe environment to be with their peers and enjoy music, dancing, games and healthy snacks. Find Yourself Friday's mission is to create a healthy, fun and educational environment for our youth while offering them an opportunity to improve their community. Members of the JAG Youth Council meet weekly to develop monthly themes based on what they feel is an important issue facing the community and give a portion of the money collected to the cause of the month. Find Yourself Fridays have been an enormous success over the last year and half, with over 150 youth attending each month and donating to various charities. Some of these include: Milford Housing Authority, Cell Phones for Soldiers, Best Buddies , Compassionate Care ALS, Kony 2012, Anti-Bullying, Milford Play Initiative, Milford Daily Bread Food Pantry, a sneaker collection for youth in the Dominican Republic and finally for JAG members to attend a Youth Venture Leadership Summit.
