First Day of Torah School!
Welcome all students, parents and guardians to a new year of learning. As our kids are getting settled in their new classrooms, parents, caregivers and guardians: please join in for our Shabbat service. We are holding a special honor for all of you during the Torah service - please come to the bimah for a moment of celebration and blessings. For this group aliyah, all are welcome, whether Jewish or fellow-traveler.

Social Action |
Refugee Resettlement Project Update
We have been assigned a family from Afghanistan and they are arriving Sept 12. More details coming very soon. If you haven't yet donated, please check the signup
link to see what is still needed. We also need monetary donations to pay for a U-haul truck, multiple beds, food, clothing and other items for the family. Checks sent to the Adat Shalom office with "refugee resettlement" in the memo line are much appreciated.
We have collected just under $2000 to date. We are off to a great start!
Please arrange to drop off your items before September 9 - do not drop off items without contacting these folks first! Note that Sandy Hayward is away until September 7:

Coping with Aging Relatives at 12:30 PM Are you worried about your parent(s) or other relative(s)? Are you concerned about their living situation? Are they having trouble with driving? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Unsure what steps to take?
After services, fill a plate at the oneg and come directly to the Library. Come for spiritual and emotional support and an opportunity to share your concerns and learn from others facing similar challenges. These are drop-in sessions; you need not have attended before. |

Mishnah Garden Harvest at 1:00 PM
Come tour the Mishnah Garden and get up close and personal with our composter. Pick gourds and get them ready for hanging in the Sukkah. Help maintain and harvest crops. Pick apples from our two trees (add honey as a preview to Rosh Hashanah) and check out the fig tree. All ages welcome.

New Art Exhibit from Washington Society of the Jewish Deaf through September 30

We are honored to host artists from the Washington Society of the Jewish Deaf (WSJD) during the month of September. On Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kipppur, WSJD holds their services at Adat Shalom while we are at Wootton High School. We are delighted to present the works of fabric artists, painters and poets. Please visit the exhibit here now till September 30. For more information about WSJD, please visit, wsjdeaf.org. Adat Shalom is proud to work with WSJD, and other non-profit and faith communities in utilizing our space.
