The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) released a report this month, featuring the EfficiencyCrafted New Homes program designed and implemented by MaGrann Associates for AEP Ohio and Columbia Gas of Ohio.

The report titled "Successful Practices in Combined Gas and Electric Utility Energy Efficiency Programs" examines the opportunities and challenges that utilities encounter when coordinating program delivery across overlapping electric and gas territories. Key among these are the potential for cost savings that can allow for increased participation, greater energy savings that can boost cost effectiveness, and improved marketing effectiveness and customer relations.

Specific to residential new construction, the report notes that "home builders perceive a single set of technical requirements, administrative processes, and quality assurance monitoring as a significantly lower burden than having to participate in multiple programs".

MaGrann Associates is proud to work with AEP Ohio and Columbia Gas of Ohio to implement the EfficiencyCrafted New Homes Program, which encourages builders to deliver higher performing homes through lower HERS scores and ENERGY STAR participation. More than 6,500 homes have been delivered through the program since its inception in 2010.  For more information, contact Ben Adams, MaGrann's Vice President for Program Development.

Heritage Village

Heritage Village, a planned 82-unit affordable housing option for seniors, broke ground on Wednesday August 6th. The building, to be located in Bloomfield, New Jersey, will contain 74 one-bedroom and 8 two-bedroom energy-efficiency and handicapped-accessible apartments, and will boast a 1,400-square-foot community center. With a 24-hour emergency maintenance service and other social services available, Heritage Village will ensure comfortable living for the 55 and older residents. Community Investment Strategies, Inc. of New Jersey will be managing the project and MaGrann Associates will be performing the Energy Star Certification.

Mike Flannery, MaGrann's Client Relations Manager, was on hand at the groundbreaking.

"The Heritage Village development is another example of Community investment Strategies commitment to Affordable Housing. These are high quality, attractive, sustainable living units for those most in need. MaGrann Associates has worked with Community Investment Strategies for many years and their mission is steadfast in making a difference in Affordable Housing," he said.

Previously a rectory, convent and school, the two three-story buildings and one five story building were rehabilitated in accordance to the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic properties, in conjunction with the NJ State Historic Office for Preservation and the National Park Service. Developers of the project were RCG Development Group, LLC and The Alpert Group, LLC.

As an energy expert, MaGrann Associates is administering New Jersey Clean Energy's "Pay for Performance" Program (P4P) for this project, which improves energy efficiency of commercial, industrial and multifamily buildings. MaGrann Associates has been offering the service to clients for about four years. Pay for Performance provides incentives for whole-building energy improvements in existing buildings as well as for new construction. Learn more about P4P here and contact Ray Perkins for New Construction or Pat Bunn for Existing Buildings.

bia

The Building Industry Association (BIA) of Central Ohio represents single and multiple family homebuilders, developers and remodelers throughout the region. Every summer the BIA holds an event called the "Parade of Homes" where the latest trends and products in home building and interior design are exhibited. This year's "parade" took place in the Northstar Community which is being developed by Nationwide Realty Investors (NRI) and The Robert Weiler Company. Northstar Community, a 1,700 acre mixed-use development, will have over 1,300 single family homes upon completion. A golf course community, Northstar is complete with a championship 7,500 yard, 18-hole course designed by former Ohio State and PGA golfer, John Cook.

MaGrann Associates administers multiple energy efficiency programs in the Midwest including, Home Energy and Commercial Rebate Programs in Kentucky and the EfficiencyCrafted Homes Program in Ohio.

"We were especially excited to find that nine of the twelve builders [here] for participating Parade homes were enrolled in the EfficiencyCrafted Homes Program," said Rich Selverian, CFO and COO of MaGrann Associates.

Created by Columbia Gas of Ohio and AEP Ohio, EfficiencyCrafted Homes connects homeowners with energy efficient-focused builders and raters. Participating builders use advanced construction practices, design details and materials to deliver energy savings. (See article above)

More than 43,000 visitors attended the Parade of Homes and eight of the entries sold this year during its July 19 - Aug. 3 run. Find details of the sold homes here.
