Attendees were heard describing the  one-on-one as fascinating, delightful, and enthralling. Augustine, who is very familiar with Albright's life and career, conversed effortlessly as she revealed intriguing anecdotes ranging from her life as a young girl in the former Czechoslovakia, to her years as a Wellesley College student, to her tenure as Secretary of State of the United States, to her current role as chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy Firm, and chair of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets.

Dick Michaud to Lead Five-Session Course
By:  Richard O Michaud, PhD,  New Frontier Adisors, LLC

Markowitz (1952) represents the birth of modern finance.  Prior to Markowitz, finance theory was largely security valuation.  Notable examples include Graham and Dodd (1934) and Williams (1938).  There was little attention to the portfolio as an entity or portfolio risk management as the focus of financial theory.
The Markowitz mean-variance (MV) efficient frontier was invented as a model of institutional investment manager behavior.  Harry Markowitz was a Ph.D. student in the economics department at the University of Chicago in the early 1950s.  He was searching for a thesis on the stock market.  He studied institutional mutual fund companies and noticed ... read more ...

CFA Society Boston's Financial Literacy Initiative
Launches New Resource Page for General Investing Public

CFA Boston's Financial Literacy Initiative seeks to apply the unbiased financial knowledge of our volunteer base to local audiences to combat the negative effects on society that occur from low financial literacy levels. Our volunteers are passionate about the opportunity to use their knowledge for good. The follow-on effects on local CFA branding and volunteer engagement are significant.

Since the initiative's inception in 2013, its impact has increased substantially year-over-year. Current statistics include:
  • Number of active alliances: 15
  • Number of annual meetings: 70
  • Number of expected participants: 1,000
  • Number of CFA Boston volunteers engaged in the program: 105
To date, most of our impact has been achieved by going out into the community. Recently, a task force led by Robert F. Kania, CFA, tackled the challenge of compiling Financial Literacy resources to increase inbound traffic to our website. This new landing page offers online resources to those who are looking to understand personal finances, but may not have access to our outside presentations. We'd like to acknowledge the end-product by thanking Rob, as well as volunteers Suzanne Norman, Stephanie Torski, CFA, and Johnny Yong, CFA. A special thanks also goes to Financial Literacy Initiative Co-Chairs Alice Avanian, CFA, and Will Krause, CFA. Please take a moment to review the Financial Literacy Resources page and consider directing clients to this valuable content.
