Here's a step by step tutorial for the Ink and Salt Technique,

prepared by Carole Dion - Design Team Magenta,

for the Magenta Newsletter subscribers.

For this project you will need a 9" x 12" smooth 140lbs  watercolor paper. Carole always creates her techniques on large surfaces that she will then cut. It's easier for the colors to mix on a larger surface.

1- Spray inks and also water on the paper until they mix and the surface is completely saturated with water.

2- Next scatter the coarse salt on the wet ink - saturated paper.

You can see here the size of the salt.

3- Right after dropping the salt you can already see it react, but it's important to leave it to do it's work and to let it air dry so the salt will leave its mark in the inks.

4- Once the paper is dry, remove the salt but don't throw it away. Keep it in a closed container, and we will show you how to use it in another newsletter.

Here's what the salt looks like
once filled with inks.

5- Once the salt is removed you can see the marks left on the paper.

N.B. The dry colours are a lot lighter so pick your colours according to the project you have in mind.

Cut the paper to the required sizes.

Following are the steps to assemble the final card:

1- Stamp and emboss the sentiment and design with clear embossing powder.

2- Ink and texture your paper with the other stamps.

3- Add light and make the colour outlines pop with a white pen. Add rings with the top of a glue bottle dipped in ink.

4- Assemble and add matting to the card card for more contrast.

And here's the final result!
Now it's your turn to add a little salt to your projects!
