Make Music New York - Alon Yavnai Big Band

Alon Yavnai brings his big band to Bryant Park to play an exciting hour -long concert of original music and arrangements. This concert is part of Make Music New York, a unique festival of free concerts in public spaces throughout New York City, all on June 21st. MMNY takes place simultaneously with similar festivities in more than 460 cities around the world - a global celebration of music making.

Through the integration of dance, video, and sound, the company's new work, Hungry Kite, seeks to explode the space between normal and deviant, object and subject, adult and child, and sets the stage for an investigation and entanglement of the social constructions that define these pervasive and destructive binaries.

Artist Ann Oren's feature film InContact will screen at Anthology Film Archive, as part of their new Filmmakers Spring Series. The Film examines intimacy in our universal state of voyeurism, evoking an age of lost romance and melodrama. Come at 8:45 for the reception and 9:45 for the screening of the film.

Yehoshua, a 34 year old married man, is fired out of the blue, after 10 years in the firm. Shocked and frustrated, Yehoshua tries to figure out how to break the news to his wife, who's having problems becoming pregnant, and if there's still a chance to get his job back. Secondary Witness: curated by Maayan Sheleff
Secondary Witness is curated by Maayan Sheleff, a recipient of ISCP's 2012 Curator Award, which offers the opportunity for a curator or curatorial collective to present a new group exhibition. This award was established in 2009 for participants in selected curatorial studies programs, as a response to the lack of opportunities for emerging curators to present institutional exhibitions in New York City. Participating artists: Lana Cmajcanin, Dor Guez, Adela Jusic, Juan Manuel Echavarria, Avi Mograbi and Michael Zupraner

"The Agency" with Maayan Sheleff
Sat, June 30, 3PM @ Independent Curators International (ICI)
Speakers will engage with the idea of "the agency" through various projects, debating the possibility of art as a vehicle for social change, and the shift in the roles of both artist and curator on the border between art and activism. Participants include Maayan Sheleff, Curator, recipient of ISCP's 2012 Curator Award, and Chelsea Haines, Public Programs Manager, among others.
