About the new Volunteer Dufferin website
Volunteer Dufferin Logo
Thanks to the Partnership Grant Program via Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, the Volunteer Dufferin site is being redone with a fresh mobile friendly look. A key feature starting soon is that all organizations will be able to post for free. We're all about citizen engagement and what better way to invite people in than to take away any barriers. It's all about the community and we're doing what it takes to bring volunteers and opportunities together. Thanks to everyone who provided such important feedback that has guided our work, all to bring you a NEW and IMPROVED website with lots of cool features and some special surprises!

One of those cool features is this: Not only will your organization's posts appear in "All Opportunities", but you'll also have your own page where someone can see all the volunteer postings for your organization! Your organization's logo, as well as a brief description will headline your page.

WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?
If you haven't already connected with Volunteer Dufferin, then please forward:
  • An .ai or .eps version of your logo
  • A brief (250 words or less) description of your organization

Please email this to kaarinadillabough@live.com by September 1st. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Kaarina.

  • Stephany St. Louis - HatsOnDufferin

This is a great opportunity to come out, connect and, potentially, collaborate. Please mark your calendars and register now to attend.
When: Friday September 21, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Where: Georgian College Orangeville, 22 Centennial Road, Orangeville, ON L9W 1P8
Farm to School
The Farm to School Team is ramping up for a busy Back-to-School season. This is the final year of the OTF grant and they have agreed to let us extend from the original January end date to the end of June 2018 to finish out the school year. Nicole and Jen will be seeing through the outstanding program objectives, bringing the formal evaluation to conclusion and wrapping up the final grant deliverables and admin aspects, including program modifications, finances and reporting. Stay tuned for next steps for F2S and its future beyond June 2018!

Spring Fling recap : About 75 program participants, community members and program partners attended and enjoyed a terrific afternoon of good food from Lavender Blue Catering, growing and cooking activities for kids, some hilarious program showcase presentations and the inaugural Golden Carrot Awards! It was a great opportunity to celebrate another successful year of F2S and the people who make it possible. We want to thank each of you on the team who helped out that day, as well as for the prep and clean-up – it was a real team effort.
Be an Engaged Citizen

Headwaters Farm Fresh Guide
Headwaters Food & Farming Alliance and In The Hills teamed up to produce the new Farm Fresh print and online guide to local food producers in the Headwaters region. About 45,000 copies of the 24-page, oversize (6.25″ x 10.5″) print version of the guide were distributed in the summer (June) issue of In The Hills, with an additional 10,000 copies distributed at markets and tourism locations throughout the region.

Special thanks to sponsors Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health, Dufferin Board of Trade and Town of Caledon and County of Dufferin. Special kudos to Marci Lipman and Signe Ball for their efforts in driving the project home.
Please Endorse the Food Charter!
The HFFA team has completed the hard at work of delegating to all of the municipalities seeking endorsement for the Food Charter. All councils have endorsed the document with the exception of East Garafraxa. The endorsement means providing support for food policy and the development of a resilient and local food system.

Trails Follow Up
As we inch closer to the Fall (did we say that??) We'll be doing another sweep of the Trails community to determine appetite for a jam session on a possible Headwaters Trails Council. Numerous possible projects of interest were identified at the Summit in May which supports how much Trails remain a priority for residents.

There are a number of avenues of funding to pursue for the right team and partnerships in place. If you're interested in being a part of a Headwaters Trails Council or committee and moving this important work forward please connect with us.

Dufferin Farm Tour September 30 2017
Our HFFA partners at Dufferin Farm Tour would like you to mark Sept 30 in your calendar for the annual Farm Tour. For one day each fall a select few Dufferin farms open their doors for the public to see “farming unfiltered”. This year’s Dufferin Town and Country Farm Tour will take place on Sat. September 30 in North-East Dufferin and area. For 17 years Dufferin farmers have generously hosted a day of education and fun at their farms. Rain or shine it’s always a great day for the family to meet local farmers on their own farms.

Dufferin is home to over 520 farms covering almost 50% of land in Dufferin County. The tour provides an opportunity to share dialogue, see farming as it happens and understand more about how food gets to the dinner plate . “This is one of my favourite days of the year. I always learn so much about our local farmers and come away with such respect and appreciation for them.” a 2016 Farm Tour visitor.

This years’ hosts include farms specializing in community supported agriculture, potatoes (organic, specialty and table), highland cattle, fruits and vegetables, native plants and milk production (Holstein dairy). Visitors will see agricultural production in action, participate in educational activities, talk with farmers and learn how food is grown or raised, harvested and marketed.

Agriculture is the largest economic contributor in Dufferin. In 2013, Dufferin County farms produced $25.6 million of beef, $16.9 million of dairy and $15.4 million worth of potatoes, among many other products.

The tour is self-guided and is free with a donation to local food banks. There
will be additional activities at each farm, including the opportunity to purchase fresh produce, so bring cash and a cooler.

So on Sept 30, 2017 come for a day in the country and see “farming unfiltered”!

Visit www.dufferinfarmtour.com to sign up for tour updates.
The tour passport is available on the website or pick one up in person at Orangeville Visitor Information or Dufferin County Museum & Archives Passports are only available ONE WEEK prior to the tour.
