Run this Malort 5K to Get a Buzz and a Burn
The Chicago Fire Soccer Club supporters group Section 8 is celebrating the group's 20th anniversary by torturing Chicagoans with a 5K race on Saturday, August 20 in North Center that'll start (and end) with a shot of Chicago's favorite wormwood libation.
The Malort 5K kicks off at 10 a.m. and ends at the PrivateBank Fire Pitch (3626 N. Talman Ave.) with another shot of Malort-if runners can tolerate it-at the soccer facility's Pub97. Brave souls will also be given a complimentary beer upon crossing the finish line to complete their Chicago handshake and thus, sealing the fate of their poor tastebuds. You'll also receive a T-shirt to commemorate the event and to brandish in front of your grandkids in 50 years to prove you, too, once went hard.

Tickets to participate are $30 and can be purchased from  section8.ticketleap.com. Stay hydrated out there, folks.

Public Bathrooms Finally Coming to 606
The  McCormick YMCA  at the western end of the 606 has kicked off a $9.4 million expansion that will add amenities for its members such as two indoor swimming pools - and for users of the park system's elevated Bloomingdale Trail,  long-desired public bathrooms.
The bathrooms are expected to open in fall of 2018 in conjunction with the expansion, officials said.

Building two unisex restrooms for visitors at the western trailhead of the 606 - Chicago's 2.7-mile long elevated park and trail system -  was a requirement included in an  ordinance introduced  in May by Mayor Rahm Emanuel  tied to the sale of city-owned land to the YMCA.

Top 5 Running Drills
Running drills are important because they strengthen your weaknesses and teach your body to work harder, stronger and more efficiently than before. It doesn't matter if you're running for fun or if you're looking to run faster and stronger, running drills are not just for elite athletes - everyone should be doing them.

You can do the drills as an independent workout after a warm-up, or as part of prep work before a full, longer run, one or twice a week. The drills look painless and easy, but they'll be different than what your body is used to, so you may find yourself sore in different places. However, the drills will start to feel easier and you'll begin to recover faster the more you do them.

Here are 5 different running drills to try that will change your running.

The City Wants Your Opinion on Splitting the Lakefront Trail Once Again
As almost every local Chicago runner knows, thanks to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the city is currently working on separating paths for runners and bicyclists along seven miles of the Lakefront Trail between Fullerton Avenue and Ohio Street and from 31st to 51st streets.

The section from 31st Street to 41st Street has been complete for several weeks. The city is now set to split the trail between Ardmore and Montrose avenues, and is holding an open house on August 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. present its plans for this portion.

Representatives from the Chicago Park District, Chicago Area Runners Association, and the Active Transportation Alliance will be present at the open house to gather feedback, answer questions, and present their plans.

2017 CrossFit Games Come to Midwest
The CrossFit Games takes competitive fitness to its extreme, pitting the fittest of the fit against each other across a series of workouts, often with a twist. Last year's prize pool totaled $2.2 million.

Tuesday, CrossFit updated the 2017 Games
workouts page with details on four of the first five events at the 2017 CrossFit Games, which take place August 3-6 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Although the event is local, catch the games on CBS Sports Network. CBS will carry two hours of competition coverage each night at 9 p.m. up through the final day of this year's CrossFit Games on August 6. On Saturday, August 5, CBS Sports will air live coverage of the games beginning at noon followed by an event recap show on August 19, also at noon.
