Defending the Cause of the Fatherless & Widow.
Man Up Missions Trips 2013
Thank you to all who have expressed interest in the "Man Up" mission trip returning (for a fourth time) to Africa in 2013. This mission trip has three main objectives:
  1. Love Big on orphans - share the "blessing" that God has provided to us by physically loving, verbally affirming, and emotionally touching their lives.
  2. Provide an example to the men of Africa. Strengthen the local church by demonstrating how to love children, care for widows, and live a life of servant leadership.
  3. Share the Gospel with orphans, widows, and men in these countries in our own individual ways.
Right now we have two trips planned for 2013:

Trip #1 - March 8th-20th: Ethiopia & Uganda

This trip will be led by by Man Up Team Member Stephen Elder. Stephen and his wife Wynne recently adopted two children from Ethiopia and they have a heart for Africa. You will be spending time in both Uganda and Ethiopia at various orphanages, children's prisons, and remote villages.

In Ethiopia, you will love on the people Korah, originally built as a leper colony for the outcasts of Addis Ababa (the capital city), but now serves as a trash dump on which many of the people at Korah survive. (built on a trash dump). The first Man Up team had a trick shot team called Dude Perfect with them and they performed a couple of their trick shots for the orphans and people of Korah, which you can watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ww0RzmkDKY.

If you are interested in this trip, you will want to get on the email distribution list; please email Stephen Elder at: jselder05@gmail.com, as he will be your team leader moving forward.

Trip #2 - May 28th - June 8th: Uganda

This trip will be led by Man Up Team Members Mitch Hauschildt, Jason Clement, and Jeff Ford. (Some of you met Jeff and/or Jason at Calvary Baptist recently as Calvary celebrated its Global Missions initiative.)  Mitch has already adopted from Korea, and both he and Jeff (along with their wives) are in the process of adopting from Ethiopia; Jason recently brought home his son Will, whom he and his wife Janna adopted from Ethiopia in October.

(Jason, Janna, & Will all together for the first time.)

This trip will focus on leadership and skills training for Uganda men, women, boys, and girls, most of whom are orphans themselves. We will spend time in various orphanages, churches, and schools helping out with different projects and loving BIG on kids. Our pastor friends in Uganda have pleaded with us to come back with a team to teach, model, and encourage their youth to become dynamic disciples in Christ; this is exactly what we intend to do!

These are going to be awesome trips, we promise! You will serve, see the beautiful land of Africa, and most importantly interact with our African brothers and sisters in Christ!  So, how can you get involved?
  • JOIN US! The trip is beginning to fill up. The estimated cost for the March 8-20 trip is approximately $3500-3900 depending on how many sign-up, (which covers airfare, food, lodging, transportation). The estimated cost for the May 28 - June 8 trip is $3100-$3400 depending on how many sign up.
  • SUPPORT US. You can donate money to help scholarship someone, to go toward supplies for the people of Africa, or help pay for logistics of the trip. All donations (and trip costs for those attending) are tax deductible.
  • PRAY FOR US. God was front and center during the inaugural trip, and then again last year. He has opened up doors and helped us identify and pinpoint specific areas of need for the people of Uganda and Ethiopia.  We have solidified relationships and have garnered a reputation for LOVING BIG on the African men, women, and children with whom we interact. Pray for His continued favor and anointment over this trip; pray that everyone involved would grow spiritually, and that God might get all the credit for lives being changed.
  • STAY IN CONTACT WITH US.  We're on Twitter and Facebook, and this is the best way to find out current info, ask questions, and share the news with friends. You can also check out the Man Up and Go movie trailer and more about how Man Up got started by going HERE. Even if you can't go on the trip, you may know someone who will - let him or her know what God is doing in Africa through this Man Up ministry!

We are planning on having two informational meetings to discuss these trips in more detail:
  • January 6th: Calvary Baptist Church, Clearwater, 12:30 PM EST, Room HS 136
  • January 6th: Teleconference, 6:30 PM EST, Telephone - 319.279.1015 (pin 577820#)
Please email us at: manupandgo@gmail.com, to let us know know which informational meeting you will be attending, and any questions you would like addressed at the meeting.

Thanks again everyone!  We hope you'll pray hard and seek God's counsel on how He would have you "Man Up" in caring for orphans and widows in their distress.

Loving Big,

The Man Up Leadership Team

James 1:27 - "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

Isaiah 1:17 - "Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow."
