Manhattan Market Insights

Its only March and 2014 has literally begun with a flurry of exciting changes. First up: a new home for the Corcoran Union Square office! After 10 years on 12th Street, our new offices at 30 Irving Place are now a block closer to the subway and place one foot in Gramercy, while still staying true to our Village and Flatiron roots. The office is state of the art with a beautiful art deco dcor. Feel free to stop by to say hello if you are in the neighborhood!

In addition, we welcome a new member, Bridget Applegate, to the team. Bridget joins me after 10 years of experience in luxury hotel marketing and sales at properties such as The Carlyle and 60 Thompson, and is excited to merge her former skill sets with her passion for real estate.

While it may seem far off, spring is on its way, with Restaurant Week in full swing, and annual rites of Spring like March Madness and pitchers and catchers right around the corner. We are ramping up for the spring selling season. A traditionally busy period in NYC real estate, now is the time to contact us if you are a seller and want to be a part of the peak selling season in one of the hottest markets we have seen in years. If you are a buyer, get excited, we should finally see some inventory soon, and with interest rates still hovering at historical lows, now is an excellent time to make a move. For a closer look at both the Manhattan and Brooklyn markets I have attached the most recent monthly Corcoran reports for your review. Manhattan Brooklyn

A New City by 2033
Developments to change the face of NYC

Like the sound of a floating pool in the middle of the East River? How about a second highline park along the abandoned Queensway? Or the lowline: a proposed park underground? If these sounds like visions of the future, they are, but not as far off as one might think. Architectural renderings allow us to peer into the future of our beloved city without a crystal ball, and NYC has some big changes coming! In this Huffington Post article, Kevin Short gives us a preview of 17 coming attractions that will transform the Big Apple as we know it. Competing with Cash
Tips for buyers in a cash heavy market

In competitive real estate markets home-buyers not only have to contend with high prices but also competition from all-cash buyers. Some of these cash buyers are baby boomers who've managed to build up equity through previous real estate purchases. Others are investors, many of them flush with money from China and other ventures overseas. While sellers like all-cash offers because they remove the financing barriers, resulting in a quicker deal, there are steps buyers needing financing can take to stay in the game. Read More

Restaurant Week Returns!
Don't Miss Out: Feb 17 - Mar 7

A much needed bright spots a midst the recent snow is the return of NYC and Company's bi-annual Restaurant Week! Always a wonderful mix of New York classics and newcomers alike, this year 291 restaurants across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens are participating! The deal is a three course meal at $25 for lunch or $38 for dinner. One of my favorites, Bar Jamon, just a few blocks from our offices in Gramercy. The kitchen is run by Chef Andy Nusser, who had a long career with Mario Batali, including his work at both Mario and Babbo. The food is great and the wine selection is impressive. Read More
