We are thrilled to announce that our longtime friend and colleague Jorge Martins (Estrela Brilhante, Cascabulho) from Recife is returning to Brooklyn, and presenting 2 very special workshops with Maracatu NY.
A member of Estrela Brilhante do Recife for almost 2 decades, as well as being a founding member of Cascabulho, and founder of Corpos Percusivos percussion school in Recife, Jorge has been instrumental in spreading maracatu to the masses together with Scott Kettner. The composer of past Maracatu NY staples like Evoluēćo dos Baques and Afinando a Bateria, these workshops will be Jorge's first with Maracatu NY since 2008. - Last week Maracatu NY joined forces with Nation Beat to bring the Capibaribe to the East River at Celebrate Brooklyn's Dance Party! It was a party of epic proportions and the perfect kick off to summer and more to come! Check out the video here!
- Maracatu NY full length record! We've been working hard in the studio for the past 5 months, putting together our first full length record, Baque de Brooklyn, which is a collection of songs featuring special guest appearances from our closest collaborators over the past 10 years. The record is in the final stages and will be out this fall, stay tuned for the grand festivities!

Maracatu for Drumset and Percussion
The first full publication in English about Maracatu de Baque Virado will be released this year on the Hal Leonard Publications company. This book is filled with historical information, photos, transcriptions and comes with a CD packed full with 98 tracks. The book explores the unique styles and baques of Estrela Brilhante, Lećo Coroado, Porto Rico, Lećo da Campina, Cambinda Estrela and more.
