With an estimated 200,000 participants, the  People's Climate Movement March in Washington D.C.  loudly and proudly reminded our current administration on the 100th day since the inauguration that we value people over profits!

As the rules and regulations of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are scrutinized for potential elimination, we need you to use your expertise and experience to send a compelling comment to the EPA for specific, science-based arguments in support of rules and regulations that protect our health.

Comments are due by May 15, 2017 and our perspective is competing with lengthy arguments from industries that would profit from deregulation. Please take time to craft a serious, science-based argument for regulations that value and submit your comment here.

The Union of Concerned Scientists has prioritized the following rules:
  • "Strong federal fuel economy and emissions standards for cars and trucks save consumers money at the pump, decrease climate emissions, and cut our oil use. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt recently re-opened a review of the rules in response to auto industry calls to weaken the standards.
  • The Chemical Facility Risk Management Program has been put on hold by the new EPA administrator even though communities near these facilities see many accidents and risks and have waited years for improvements.
  • The Clean Power Plan is a core element of the nation's effort to address global warming by curbing carbon emissions from existing power plants. By spurring investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and other low-carbon technologies, the Clean Power Plan would also improve public health, save consumers money, and create jobs. President Trump recently instructed the EPA to review the Clean Power Plan, setting in motion a campaign pledge to roll back global warming policies."

This administration has not had huge success in courts thus far, so this period of notice and comment could be used in lieu of the courts to tear down the Clean Power Plan by the same legal mechanism that Obama used to implement it without litigating it in court. We have direct power with this approach. It is urgent that you submit your science-based argument for regulations that you value here before May 15, 2017.

PSR-Philadelphia - Climate Change Fact Series

Fact 16. The elimination of the US Clean Power Plan could threaten the ability of the United States to meet its own target of reducing emissions but cannot eliminate the Paris Agreement.
