Never fear, NC Kids Digital Library is here!

With over 3000 titles (ebooks, audio, and streaming video) and more being added, this is a great way to keep kids reading...lots of popular titles to choose from and with each library card, up to 5 titles can be checked out. It's simple to navigate!

No internet access at home? Check out a mobile hotspot with your library card. A hotspot enables patrons to gain access on your device to the internet through T-Mobile's cell system where it is available.
Or... check out a kindle with preloaded books for adults and children .

Internet service limited or not possible where you live? Please complete a brief broadband survey so your county officials know this! Don't delay, this survey will be available until March 10th!
Consider This Read-In 
A celebration of conscious curiosity, the passionate pursuit of learning and the power of collective knowledge. This read-in, organized by Appalachian State University will feature several kinds of events that address different kinds of literacy - written, visual, media, and more. Events will be held at 3rd Place, the Smith Gallery, and the Watauga County Public Library the week of March 27th through April 1st.

VITA Tax Help
Appointments are available Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings through April 8th.

Traveling Science Roadshow
Gravity Games
The Traveling Science Roadshow, led by a team of undergraduate students from UNC, is bringing hands-on science and engineering to Watauga County Public Library on March 15th from 3:30pm-5pm. Come see great science demonstrations about gravity and explore the physics of racing. Then, in celebration of the upcoming NC Gravity Games, you'll get the chance to build and test your very own pasta race car on our special race track ramp!
Seed Library
The Watauga County Seed Library is located behind the circulation desk at the public library. Join fellow seed-savers and other interested people at the Seed Saving Kickoff on Saturday April 1st at 3pm at the Watauga County Public Library.

T he mission of the Seed Library is to make free seeds available to anyone in our area to grow their own food; promote gardening and seed saving; promote healthy outdoor activity; provide information, education, and instruction about sustainable organic gardening and seed saving; collect historical information about seeds and seed saving in our region to ensure preservation of our local heritage and traditions; build community resilience, self-reliance, and a culture of sharing.
This program is jointly organized by the Watauga Public Library & the Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture.
Swept Away: The 1940 Flood
Local historian Paul Fuller will present a talk about the 1940 flood and its impact on the High Country. The devastating August flood destroyed homes, washed out roads, and killed 16 people in Watauga County. Come learn how this event impacted the High Country and about current efforts to memorialize the event through the NC Highway Marker program.
Launch Pads
The Watauga County Public Library is now circulating Launchpads. These devices are preloaded with interactive learning apps and games. These tablets are fun to explore and durable enough for little explorers. Launchpads are checked out for one week and each are targeted to one of three age groups, 3-5, 5-7, and 8-10. Ask for them at the Youth or Circulation Desks. 
Laptops Available
The Watauga County Public Library is offering laptops to checkout for in-library use. If you are in need of a computer and all of the public terminals are in use or if you'd like to sit elsewhere in the library inquire at the Circulation Desk.  
Coffee Service at the Library
The Watauga County Public Library is now offering hot beverages. We have coffee, both caffeinated and non-caffeinated, hot chocolate, and tea for $1 each. Ask at the Circulation desk to get your cup. This service is provided by the Friends of the Watauga County Public Library and all proceeds go to the Friends. 
Outreach Services
Watauga County Library provides outreach services to homebound individuals. Library materials are delivered to your door!!! Drop off and pick up is once a month and there are no overdue charges!!! Interested? Contact the Western Wataguga Branch Library by calling 828-297-5515 or emailing Jackie Cornette at jcornette@arlibrary.org.
