Student of the Month
Congratulations to Nathan Xie!
Nathan will receive (along with priceless glory and endle
ss bragging rights) a $30 Gift Certificate to Music Time Academy, as well as a $20 gift card to the Cinema West Theater in Livermore!

Instrument:  Piano
Teacher: Cory
Age: 8
Grade: 3rd
School: Dolon Elementary School
Student Since: July 2014
Hobbies (besides practicing): Kung Fu

For March 2015, we bestow the Student of the Month honor to Nathan Xie. His teacher, Cory, was quick to nominate him for the award because of Nathan's impressive drive and dedication to learning music.
Cory comments how Nathan has been moving through the material that he assigns very quickly, "I have been constantly impressed with his unrelenting interest in piano and his awesome practice habits," Cory continues. Nathan is clearly enjoying the benefits of progress that come along with excellent practice, like a stellar performance of Blue Monk in his very first first Music Time Academy concert last December! Now extending his lessons to one hour per week, we are excited to see Nathan's growth as he continues to work hard and go the extra mile for excellence.

Nathan's mother is joyful (possibly even amazed?) about Nathan's musical experience so far. "Nathan is like a different person whenever he plays piano," she describes. "It brings out the another side out of him, his peaceful side."

Great job, so far, Nathan! Keep up the hard work. We are all excited to see where your musical path will take you!

Do you know a current Music Time Academy student with a newsworthy musical story or accomplishment from the past month that should be featured? If so, please fill out our online nomination form by following this link:  STUDENT OF THE MONTH NOMINATION FORM
Teacher Feature
Meet  Ian Williams , our featured staff member for March 2015!  Ian teaches a variety of instruments including flute, saxophone, clarinet and piano. You may not recognize his face though, since he is only here on Sundays (that's right, we DO offer Sunday lessons).

Born and raised right here in the Tri Valley Area by two musical parents, it is no wonder that Ian Williams has pursued music to become the accomplished teacher and performer that we first met back in 2013, when he joined the Music Time Academy staff as a substitute instructor for several months prior to teaching here regularly. His father, a composer, arranger and trumpeter, and his mother, a former first grade teacher who would sing and play songs to her students on the auto-harp, Ian was fortunate to grow up in a musical household. At a young age, he began making music himself, continuing on to develop professional level skills on not only the saxophone (his primary focus), but also on other woodwinds (clarinet, flute) and piano.

Ian's musical studies include music courses at Diablo Valley College, Berklee College of Music Summer Programs, and private instruction from some of the most highly regarded instrumentalists in area, including Guido Fazio. Ian has been awarded honors such as the Ernie Thompson Scholarship for Best Woodwind Player, and the Louis Armstrong Award for Most Outstanding Musician at San Ramon Valley High. In addition to teaching at Music Time Academy, Ian is currently an assistant manager at House of Woodwinds, performing minor instrument repairs. He is a member of the Diablo Valley College Night Jazz Band, and has performed several times at Oakland's world famous jazz venue, Yoshi's, alongside renowned artists like Michael Wolff, Tom Politzer, Wayne Wallace and Wayne Bergeron.
