St. Patrick's Day

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
~Irish Blessing

Sermon Series

Lenten Sermon Series: Metamorphosis
At the touch of Christ, lives change - spiritually, emotionally, physically and relationally. Sometimes our lives change quickly and sometimes slowly over time, but the difference is often striking. With that in mind, during the Sundays of Lent and Easter, we will be preaching from the miracles of Jesus, culminating in the difference the cross and the resurrection makes for us personally and for the whole world. The goal of this series is for each of us to have a metamorphosis of our own...so that we become witnesses of Christ's life-changing power.  Metamorphosis  will be a series you won't want to miss!

Sermon: "Straighten Up"
Scripture:   Luke 13:10-17

Dr. Will Cotton will preach at the 8:30, 9:40 and 11 am worship services. Dr. John Clifford will be the liturgist at 8:30 and 11 am.

The Source , our weekly devotional guide, is available on the  church website Please join us in worship this weekend...Sunday at 8:30 am (Sanctuary), 9:40 am (Family Life Center) or 11 am (Sanctuary).

Introducing Rev. David Johnson
Rev. David Johnson
Effective July 1, David K. Johnson will be serving as one of our new associate pastors at First Church. He was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, where he was part of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He graduated cum laude from McMurry University with a BA in Business Administration in 2002. After 3 years in human resources and development in two different hospitals in El Paso (2002-2005), David became a lead advisor and then senior counselor at Texas Tech University (2005-2012). He went to seminary at Perkins School of Theology at SMU, graduating with a Master of Divinity in 2015. While in seminary, he was a chaplain for SMU campus ministry. For the past three years, he has served as the pastor of First United Methodist Church in Haskell, Texas. He is an ordained elder and has served for the past year on the Board of Ordained Ministry of the Northwest Texas Conference.

David is known for his creative and effective preaching, his great way with people and his passion for reaching young adults and families. Accompanying him will be his dog, Mia, a rat terrier dachshund mix. Be in prayer as David says goodbye to a congregation that has deeply loved him and prepares to say hello and begin his new adventure with us at First Church.
Spotlight on...Retired Clergy-in-Residence
Retired Clergy
Retired Clergy-in-Residence are Bridging the Gap!
We are blessed to have several retired clergy who call First Church home and they are stepping up during this time of transition to support and fill many pastoral responsibilities such as pastoral support in the office, assisting and officiating during worship, hospital/homebound visitation, and clergy connection to various church ministries. Retired clergy include Rev. Van Dickens, Rev. Kathy Clark-Dickens, Rev. John Clifford and Rev. Marion Childress-Usher.

Let's see how Dr. John Clifford and Rev. Marion Childress-Usher will be assisting.

Dr. John Clifford will share his prodigious gift of writing as he authors some of the liturgy for services and continues as one of our writers of The Source. He will also be assisting with or officiating at worship services and funerals. John serves as the clergy connection for JOY fellowship.

Rev. Marion Childress-Usher shares her gift of compassion and hospitality as she serves as the  clergy connection for Stephen Ministry. She will also assist in worship services as needed and assist with Holy Communion for groups.

We appreciate the gifts and graces that John and Marion share with First Church.

When you see these retired clergy, please take a moment to thank them!

Resurrection Celebration

Save the Date...Resurrection Celebration is coming up on Palm Sunday, March 25
Resurrection Celebration has become one of our Holy Week traditions at First Church. It is an opportunity for children, accompanied by parents, to experience five events that occurred during Holy Week. The celebration will begin in the courtyard with Lewis the Donkey at the Palm Sunday station.  Volunteers will be at five stations in costume and in character portraying someone who was present during Holy Week. It will be a busy morning, but Resurrection Celebration will have start times from 9:30-11 am. To assist you with planning and to help avoid wait times, please sign up for a start time on the church website. Completing all five stations of Resurrection Celebration will take approximately 50 minutes. Sunday School will still take place in regular locations from 9:40-10:40 am and every worship service will have special Palm Sunday elements as well.

New this year! We are asking families to sign up for a time to begin their Walk through Holy Week. We hope the sign up will decrease the amount of time spent waiting in line outside of stations. Do allow 50 minutes to visit all five stations.  Sign up for your time today!
Twin Oaks Cafe
Children's Ministry will be staffing the Twin Oaks Cafe in April
The Twin Oaks Cafe is staffed by a different ministry/mission group each month and April is the month for Children's Ministry. All proceeds from the cafe will benefit Vacation Bible School 2018. We need some volunteers. If you can spare a couple of hours on a Sunday morning, we would love to have your help.
