Chamber News

A Note From Our  Executive Director

Hard to believe it is already March and we are days away from the opening of the Capitol Hill Light Rail station and ULink. Starting March 19th, people will be able to move between Capitol Hill, downtown Seattle and the University District in minutes! The neighborhood is eager to welcome new customers and visitors to our vibrant, diverse businesses. If you spend $5 or more on March 19th, swing by the Chamber's booth on opening day to get a keepsake of the iconic Red Wall, but go early because we expect these to go quick!

The Chamber launched a series of neighborhood-wide events last month, meeting with more than 30 business owners, employees and community members from 15th Avenue E at a happy hour on February 24th. The room was abuzz with conversation and we are eager to meet with you and discuss ways the Chamber can help sustain and grow a strong neighborhood business community. A big thank you goes out to our sponsors Board and Vellum and Ada's Technical Books.  I look forward to meeting you at an upcoming event!

Zipcar Seattle's Expansion of 'On-Street' Locations

Zipcar Seattle's already-operating 'on-street' or 'curbside' Zipcar locations have become very popular with current Zipcar members and neighborhood residents alike as they reduce overall need for car ownership, lessen parking congestion, and provide the neighborhood an impactful, dedicated neighborhood transportaiton benefit. These dedicated neighborhood Zipcars promote & compliment the use of other urban trip-types and modes. As such, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is partnering with Zipcar Seattle to support in expanding these locations starting in May. We'd love your parking ideas & expressed support!  We are accepting feedback through March 31!

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Washington ( NAMI Washington) is teaming up with Lost Lake Café & Lounge for a "Dine Out For Mental Health" 24-hour benefit event on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Lost Lake Café & Lounge, located at 1505 10th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122. Ten percent of total sales for the entire day will go to support the work of NAMI Washington and its 23 affiliates around the state.

One in five adults and one in ten children in America experience a serious mental health condition each year. NAMI Washington's mission is to improve the quality of life for all those affected by mental illness. We do this by providing a statewide, unifying voice of advocacy and coordinating the delivery of education, support and recovery. We are the families, friends and individuals who work to increase research and eradicate the stigma and shame surrounding mental illness. NAMI is a three-tiered organization with a National office, a state office, and in Washington there are 23 local NAMI Affiliates  across the state. Working together NAMI Washington and our Affiliates provide classes, support groups and community presentation programs at no-cost to any member of the community. NAMI offers specialized programs for schools and teachers, middle and high school students, and Veterans.
