This quote was just one of the wise inspirations speaker and best-selling author Bob Goff shared at the first inaugural Circle 58 dinner in February in The Gatehouse Event Center. We experience this truth at The Gatehouse every day. God passes to us and Gatehouse families your talent when you volunteer, your physical resources when you give and your love as we all become part of this community where we serve, work, heal and laugh together.

The serving, working, healing and laughing happens on both sides of the gate - for our member families, as well as for those who work to empower the families to become self-supportive. Here are some brief results as our community settles in and grows together.
  • 100% of GH members utilize skills assessments as the catalyst to determine education and career development needs; receive interview prep, presentation skills, career guidance.
  • 90% of members are employed.
  • 33% are in school / training.
  • 100% of members receive professional counseling.
  • 14 have received legal aid.
  • 26 have received quality used cars.
  • 58 children attend childcare.
  • 98% pay varying portions of their own expenses.
  • 8 members have graduated.
  • 6 more graduations are scheduled late spring 2017
  • 1,600 volunteers are trained.
Our mission stays the same: to offer a community where women and children in crisis discover new paths for permanent change. Here are three of our 2017 goals to continue to fulfill the mission with excellence:
  • fund construction of a $4.5mm early learning and childcare academy

  • fully develop the Student Enrichment Program for our kids of all ages, and

  • acquire 30 more individuals / groups to adopt the next 30 families coming into Gatehouse's Independent Life Program.
Come see the progress from 4-6pm Thursday, March 23, during our 2nd Anniversary Open House. If you haven't toured the community, you will meet GH staff as you experience the inside of an apartment, Keeps Boutique, General Store, Hope Chapel and the Community Education Center. RSVP here. Help us celebrate, and consider bringing gift cards to the party, which we can then use for our women and children.

Thanks for reading more and for 'being the message' to women and kids who work diligently for permanent change.

See you soon!

VOICE OF A GATEHOUSE VOLUNTEER
Next steps to financial freedom
"Throughout the last year, I have had the wonderful opportunity to assist Gatehouse women prepare and follow a budget, pay off debt, start or increase their savings, improve their credit scores and manage other financial areas. I have seen first-hand that because of the opportunity The Gatehouse has given these women, they are excited to improve their lives, become self-supportive, provide their children with stability and find a job in which they can thrive.

"I grew up in a lower-middle class community. We didn't have a lot of money, but we had what we needed. And I had mentors who helped build my self-confidence so that I wasn't afraid to go to college or to take a job in another city. I knew I could succeed. It is now my pleasure to be that mentor to someone else, and I'm thankful The Gatehouse has given me that opportunity.

"It has been a joy to see the women's self-confidence improve tremendously.  I truly believe that when they graduate, they will be equipped to lead happy, successful lives and know they are worth it! And it is because of what The Gatehouse is doing for these women. Thank you."
