Sunday of Orthodoxy - Vespers
Sunday, March 5 at 5:00 pm with fellowship hour following:
The Sunday of Orthodoxy is the first Sunday of Great Lent. The dominant theme of this Sunday since 843 has been that of the victory of the icons. In that year the iconoclastic controversy, which had raged on and off since 726, was finally laid to rest, and icons and their veneration were restored on the first Sunday in Lent.
After this beautiful service, Philoptochos will be sponsoring the vespers fellowship hour for the many guests who will be attending from all the Orthodox churches in the metro area.
For those of you planning to attend, we would be grateful if you could bring your favorite Lenten item which could include
a fruit tray, pretzels, crackers, Lenten cakes, Lenten paximadia or koulourakia or store bought Lenten cookies such as oreos. For more ideas, try out one of the Lenten recipes from our Philoptochos cookbook.
If you are not attending the vesper service but will be in church Sunday morning, feel free to drop off your item on Sunday morning in the Center's kitchen, making sure to mark "for vespers". Any items you bring would be greatly appreciated.

Seniors Valentines Brunch & Bingo: Over 65 seniors and other guests played bingo and enjoyed a lovely brunch catered by Aspasia's. Everyone had a great time as usual. Many thanks to all who helped make this another great Senior's event.
Lunch in the Park: Philoptochos volunteers Janice Thomas and crew prepared and delivered 150 lunches once again in February. Thank you to the angels who helped with this vital ministry.
