Working Together, Building Together
Carlos Bell, President
I had the privilege of beginning my professional career as an Associate CPE Supervisor at the Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System, Dallas, TX. The opportunity to serve individuals who had given so much to our country and sacrificed their lives was an unforgettable life changing experience. The veterans taught me through story the importance of Working Together, Building Together in the midst of chaos and commitment to service.

Why Medical Residents Need Chaplains
Linda Simmons
Professional chaplains are stationed on military bases, in hospitals and hospices, prisons, and even workplaces-anywhere where people are struggling with "ordinary" or extreme stresses of human life.

Historically, colleges and universities have had chaplains who supported and challenged students at key developmental transitions in their lives.  How is it that chaplains are scarcely found in settings of intense professional formation at the graduate and post-graduate level?   The most stressful of these has  been identified
Ramona Reynolds
as  medical training, in which medical students and residents  sco re higher in symptoms of burnout than peers in other professions. A 2016 study reported that "in national samples of 4402 medical students and 1701 residents, high emotional exhaustion, high depersonalization and overall burnout was substantially more prevalent among medical students and residents than age-matched college graduates not studying medicine"
(Dyrbye & Shanafelt, 2016).
