A Word From The Board- Wendy Taylor-Santucci
One of the most important responsibilities of being a board member is determining the needs of the chamber members and the community. Sometimes this is easier said than done.

Our members are made up of a myriad of industries: restaurants, retail stores, distributors, service providers, manufacturers and more.
How can we best serve you all?

This has been a dilemma for the St Charles Chamber Council for Industry since its inception.

How can we best serve the 250 plus industrial businesses in St Charles?

Manufacturers are a seemingly independent group, bogged down with long hours and stringent processes and deadlines. They have no time for networking events or ribbon cuttings or after-hours events.

They need people.

St Charles Community Unit School District already knew this and have launched a program called Project Lead the Way that encourages children and young people to explore engineering and technical opportunities.

The Council for Industry invited Chamber members to an event last March at Haines Middle School to see these young people in action building robots. It was impressive and encouraging to see the complicated contraptions that these kids could create!

The Industrial Council will be having a similar event, March 14 th at Genesis Automation to see the Youth Robotic STEM Tour. Please refer to this newsletter or the Events page on our website for details.

The Industrial Council hopes to expose our members to the opportunities that can be found in manufacturing and we hope to expose everyone: high school kids, Chamber members and members of the community to attend the Industrial Tours that the Council hosts several times a year at different manufacturing locations. We have had the honor and the privilege to host events at Olcott Plastics, Elite Extrusion, Clarke and Fona and these have been clean and bright locations with fascinating processes in fast paced environments. Come and see for yourselves!

If your company would like to host an Industrial tour, please let the Chamber know and if you would like to attend, please check our website for upcoming events!

Lastly, if there is a need that you would like the Chamber to fulfill, please let us know!

We are here to serve you!

95th Annual Charlemagne Award Dinner
Q Center, 1405 North Fifth Avenue, St. Charles, IL 60174

Charlemagne Award Dinner, a picture perfect night of many surprises, businesses celebrated, and one Charlemagne Award winner announced. We would like to thank everyone who attended this year, our sponsors, and our volunteers.

The "Legend of the Four Son's of Charlemagne," written by C.V. Amenoff, who served as Mayor of St. Charles from 1969 to 1973, has had a long history being associated with the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce's prestigious Charlemagne award. The Charlemagne Award is given to those individuals who have accomplished so much in life; however, have demonstrated what it means to give back to the community.

2016 Charlemagne Award Winner
Darlene Riebe, Lazarus House

Darlene Riebe has served the community it many ways for a number of years. She began at Lincoln School as a volunteer in 1986, as well as, a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 13 and Boy Scout Troop 1. Darlene also served as a Sunday School teacher at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and when her children were in school, she baby sat kids for $1 a day per child. She started volunteering for RiverFest in 1990. Wearing many hats, she served as site manager and committee member, as volunteer coordinator in charge of more than 100 volunteers, and currently Pride of the Fox board member and volunteer coordinator. In 1993, she started with the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce as a welcome hostess, became the office manager in 1996, and in 2005 moved into the membership director position. In her 18 years of employment, the St. Charles Chamber went from 325 to 650 members. Darlene has been a volunteer for the Downtown St. Charles Partnership since1996 and also worked on the St Charles Christmas Parade and Holiday Homecoming. She was instrumental when the parade changed from an afternoon Christmas Parade to what it is now, the Electric Christmas Parade, which we all know and love. In 2000, when the partnership and McNally's wanted to bring the first St. Patrick's Day parade to St. Charles, Riebe was a key participant with the logistics and the line-up. Darlene currently volunteers with CatNap From the Heart, and helps fundraise for their annual gala. Since 2012, she has been involved in the Chicago Corvette Club, taking on the role of secretary.

This was a great opportunity to meet Chamber Members and network.  They provided drinks from Fox River Distillery and appetizers for a wonderful evening. Neighbors Magazines
Neighbors Magazines expands services with programs that guarantee results

Neighbors Magazines is expanding its services to make it easier for local businesses to reach new customers and stand out in a crowded marketplace.  The expanded services include a county-wide media website, a powerful Personal Business Page, automated social media feeds, exclusive direct marketing programs and content marketing with guaranteed results.

"The magazine is still the most cost effective way to deliver a message to  every household," says Tim Sullivan, Publisher.  Neighbors of St. Charles Magazine is delivered to all the homes within the St. Charles City limits.  "With our expanded marketing services, local businesses now have access to a complete marketing suite specifically designed for hyperlocal marketing.  Everything we are doing now is geared toward helping our advertisers stand out in the crowd."

The new Personal Business Page is an example.  It is easy and cost effective (starting at FREE).  A business creates a page on our media website that automatically collects content about the business and presents that content in a stylish Personal Business Page.  The page includes logo, map, website link, business overview, photos, upcoming events, positive customer reviews, published articles, and even videos. The Personal Business Page builds brand, credibility, reputation, trust and awareness.

"The page can be set up in about 15 minutes," Sullivan notes. "Then the business owner can watch as content about the business automatically populates their page."

As new content is added to a Personal Business Page it can be automatically sent to social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.

For direct marketing Neighbors offers a postcard program guaranteed to be the lowest cost available for a single postcard.  Specialized print products, rack cards and flyers; editorial services; and, point of sales services, gives businesses everything they need for a great marketing program at low cost.

St. Charles Chamber of Commerce members will receive a "Quick Guide to Smart Marketing"  free, just for asking.  Send your request to [email protected].  To get started on a Personal Business Page, go to KaneNeighbors.com/places.
