News for the ASCA Communique?
A Note from Andrea
As we reflect on the burst of ASCA's activity and outreach around the state in the past four weeks, we are grateful for our partners and everyone who joined us at the Governor's Arts and Humanities Awards and the Poetry Out Loud State Competition in Juneau, the Creative Forces Summit in Anchorage and Dr. Jane Chu's community meetings in Fairbanks and Bethel.

Air Force Colonel Theresa Lawson, commander of the 673d Medical Operations Squadron, introduces the "The Forget Me Nots", a group of veterans working with music therapists, Rebecca Vaudreuil and Danielle Kalseth at the Creative Forces Summit on Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, February 22, 2018.  Image courtesy Mike Conti.

At the Governor's Awards, there were many special moments during the evening as we honored Alaskans who have spent their lives making our state an extraordinary place through arts and culture. State Writer Laureate, Ernestine Hayes, spoke at both the awards and Poetry Out Loud events. Her remarks, available on 360 North Links here, ( Governor's Awards) and ( Poetry Out Loud), provided a powerful and uplifting message of a hopeful future built on connection and caring.

While hosting NEA chairman, Dr. Jane Chu, and her staff and guests from the national Creative Forces team, it was clear that a willingness to work together and across sectors is one of our strengths in Alaska. To that end, planning is underway for our statewide arts conference in Fairbanks, September 6-8, 2018 where we can continue to create connection, and strengthen networks and opportunities for Alaskans. More details and a Save the Date are coming soon!
