Annual Big Dig Events

The Big Dig events are our garden kickoff where we turn over the soil to prepare for the upcoming season. The Big Dig Events have various levels of tasks and opportunities for volunteers to contribute their time in a big way! Garden volunteers will assist in turning over soil, pulling weeds and planting new seedlings. We will have community garden leads present to assign tasks and help new gardeners learn more and just have fun .
 
Ages: Everyone is welcome to participate

7th Annual EGGSTRA Special Easter Massive Stuffing Party
The We Cancerve Movement, Inc.
 
Date/Time: Tuesday, March 20, 4 - 6pm
 
Location: Boys & Girls Club (Havre de Grace Branch) 351 Lewis Lane, Havre de Grace

During the month of February, The We Cancerve Movement collected candy and treats that will be delivered in baskets to homeless, sick and foster children. Volunteers are needed on March 20 for a massive basket-stuffing party! The goal is to fill 700 baskets.

Want to get hands on with helping babies in need? ShareBaby provides diapers, clothing and gear to highly effective community organizations working to ensure Baltimore's young children get the best start in life! Come help us with gear sorting and diaper wrapping at the warehouse! Our volunteer sessions are a great way to spend some time giving back to children in need in Baltimore. Unless otherwise noted, our sessions are family-friendly. There is space for small children to play/do activities and generally children six and up are able to help with sorting and/or diaper wrapping. Snacks and water will be provided. We suggest that you dress comfortably and wear layers in case you need to adjust to the temperature of the space. Please bring a box of size 3, 4, 5 or 6 diapers along with you when you come to the session.

Ages: Families with children of all ages are welcome to volunteer.

Community Garden Day - Greenhouse
Park Heights Community Health Alliance
 
Date/Time: Saturday, March 24, 9 - 11am
 
Location: 3300 Woodland Ave., Baltimore

Do you want to learn more about greenhouses and urban farming? Join us for a light work day at our hoophouses located at Woodland Garden site. We will be transplanting recent seedlings and preparing seedlings for the late winter. This will be an opportunity to help on the site with projects like raking leaves and other late fall tasks. The hoop houses are generally warmer than the normal outside temperature, but still dress accordingly to the weather.

Ages: Families with children of all ages are welcome to volunteer.

March Lunch Patrol - Baltimore Rescue Mission
B & Dee's Baltimore Love
 
Date/Time: Sunday, March 25, starting at noon
 
Location: Baltimore Rescue Mission, 4 N. Central Ave., Baltimore (this is the meeting location)

Lunch Patrol is a monthly brown bag lunch distribution for those in need throughout Baltimore City. Get your family together to pre-make brown bag lunches -- sandwich, drink, snack, and dessert. The bagged lunches will be delivered by volunteers on foot and by vehicle to those in need throughout Baltimore City. Volunteers can help by packing and/or delivering lunches.
 
Ages: Families with children of all ages are welcome to volunteer.
 
Time Commitment: Flexible. Volunteer for as long or as short as you'd like.

B & Dee's 2nd Annual Easter Celebration/Helping the Homeless on Easter

Location: 421 Fallsway, Baltimore; (across the street from Healthcare for the Homeless)

Join us as we celebrate Easter by hosting a potluck dinner buffet for the homeless in Baltimore City. Volunteers are needed to bring pre-made food for the event and are welcome to stay and enjoy the celebration. The event will also feature an Easter Egg Hunt, music, and fun!
 
Ages: Everyone can participate. We especially welcome our youngest volunteers to join us!
 
Time Commitment: Flexible. Stay for as long or as short as you'd like.

Become a Senior Angel
Doing Good Together
 
Date/Time: Once a week
 
Location: A  senior in your community

You can help create a more age-integrated society and instill positive attitudes toward aging by providing your child with positive contacts with seniors. By becoming a Senior Angel your family will let a senior know they are remembered and loved through an ongoing weekly correspondence. Seniors who may be home-bound, confined to nursing homes, or in convalescent hospitals will look forward to your weekly greetings! You can reach out to a relative, neighbor or senior you know in your community .

What you'll need:
  • Stationery, greeting cards, pens, drawing or art supplies
  • Occasional small, inexpensive, gifts ($2-$5), such as a box of tea or bar of scented soap
  • Postage
Once-a-week send your older friend chatty letters, friendly cards, uplifting notes, children's drawings and perhaps an occasional small gift. Learn more by visiting the Doing Good Together Become a Senior Angel page.
 
Ages: Your whole family can participate!
 
Time Commitment: Varies, but please plan on making an ongoing, long-term commitment to your senior.
